new toys

okay i made some toys with the parts i got from ca birdnerds. and some random parts i already had. and i have lots left over to make more <grin>
okay the first one is skittles' toy
the second went to marley
the third to twiggy
the last two are put up for later...maybe ollie if he's not afraid of them
then we have marley picking out the parts for his toys.
then we have marley supervising the making of his new toy.

the first is skittle with is toy on the right. i tried to get him playing with it, but as soon as i walked up with the camera, he stopped and looked at me like what?
he also has a macaw bagel. which is a heavy piece of pressed cardboard tube, i tied it to some sisal rope like his water bottle and he loved it. played with it for more than 15 minutes!
the last one is some of the parts i have left over. plenty for more toys. cause i also have a rubber maid tub with parts in it. salvaged parts from old toys, parts left over from previous toy making episodes. etc

i spent all afternoon making toys. as i sat in the floor complaining about how bad my knees and neck were hurting, jess says to me "well duh! you've sat in the floor making toys all afternoon...hey! you are an elf!  you even make toys!"      to truly appreciate that comment you have to know #1 i'm 4'10" tall  and  #2 Andrew always introduces me to friends and friends' parents as "this is my elf".     and when i fuss at him he responds with "hey there Mr. Frodo, dont you be gettin short with me!"

wooo hoo! New toys!

My guys always stare them down like they might just kill them if they tocu them, for about 2 hours. then I come in and the toys are gone! Dont last long here lol

the only thing marley is afraid of is this purple colored acrylic twisty perch and a hanging toy made from the same colors acrylic.  he will completely freak out if i even put it where he can see it. any toys i make or bring home, they jump right into or completely ignore. but dont seem to fear. even twiggy.

wow, TOzie! how much experience have you had making toys? you're good at it? (are there any still in one piece this morning? LOL?) Your tall son can help with the tall stuff, I told my son that is what i plan to do with him! "hey, you're taller than me, you can clean out the gutters/trim the high branches/reach stuff for me on the high shelves/dust the curtain rods, etc."  How nice of Marley to help with construction! "i'll take this...and a few of these..., and maybe two of those...." 
Do you think if you worked at a table it would save your poor joints?    

(p.s. my son will be 9 next month, and he is 4'7"! my husband towers over his short 5'1" mother too, (she is feisty and awesome), and she said (when he was a teenager) if he tries to "act all indignant and mouthy because he is a lot taller than her (and thought he could get away with it because of that), she would 'kneecap' him and knock him down to size" (as a joke of course). She is a black belt so he wasn't going to test that, LOL. )

My back always hurts too after sitting on the floor & making toys but that is the easiest way to do it. 
Wow 4-10 that is pretty short, Skittles is almost as big as you.

    ya'll had me rolling as i read...
thanks very much on the compliments.  i was pretty proud of myself.   and the fiddies loved the ones i showed them. i kinda stick to one style for each bird cause that's their favs. twiggy loves hanging rope she can nibble with thin wood she can whittle. marley loves anything he can hang off, and absolutely adores the finger traps. i have bought 60 in the last few months and he is going through them like crazy! i think i have about 15 left. skittles likes things that hang that he can pull up and hold while he chews or things he can beat the snot out of.  he's lazy too, he prefers soft wood.    because it's often the same style, i'm getting pretty good at it. i did put a few together, decide they werent practical, and took them apart to start over. i also look in the birdie catalogues and shamelessly steal ideas.  :oopse5:   i love my bolt cutters , they really come in handy w the chains.

wishy, it would probably help some...but i dont have a table. we eat at tv trays in the livingroom. i do have one buffet style table that folds up, its in storage, but it only comes out when i have huge sewing projects or family get togethers...but i dont have enough family left to need it!    Drew is around 5'10" i think. he's quite a bit taller than me. if you stand and watch him, you can see him grow!    He doesnt fear me so to speak, but he wont push me too far. if i start cussing, he backs off. it means mom's lost her temper and there's no telling what she'll do.    I'm not a black belt, but i very much believe in equalizers. the one physical fight i've ever had with Jess, Drew almost killed her for touching me. NO ONE touches his momma. He gets all the outside work, and most of the 'tall' work. and anything i'm not strong enough to do. and , yeah, the fiddies love their toys.

jades, that would be my chubby knee. it was swelled up from crawling around too much. 

zim, if i hold skittles so he's looking me in the eye, his tail touches my knee!

it always tickles kids to death when the realize i'm am adult and they're taller than me.    usually once they hit puberty they shoot over me. they also seem to trust and respect me more too.  when i worked at mcd's, the teen boys would come in on the weekends looking to stir up trouble. i'd storm out to the lobby and fuss at them. they always straightened up with no lip...not to my face anyway.    i always say i'm not smart enough to be afraid.    i went toe to toe with 6ft2,  260lbs for 16 yrs, nothing can scare me.
