I understand that Presdident Obama has settled on getting a Labradoodle for the White HOUse dog. I had really hoped that he would try to send a message by adopting a pound puppy. I'm kind of disappointed. Should I be?

There had been talk earlier of him adopting/rescue.  I'm not sure why they changed their minds.  I think that would have shown alot more goodness on his part not to mention saving a life!

i thought he was going to try to get a pound puppy. perhaps he couldn't find a shelter labradoodle. Most shelters only have pitbulls and rottweilers. thats how it is here in MA anyways.

Well...IMO I think he should be able to get a dog from wherever he wants, I think it would be great if he got one from a shelter but maybe they cant find one thats compatible with their family? I Mean he is only human, even if he is the president. I mean, when I got Morgan I did look in rescues for a chihuahua that I liked but there just were none and for me yes it HAD to be a chihuahua of small size and had to be perfect in what I wanted for looks of one as well. I know that sounds bad, but I had lost my chi not long before I decided I was ready for another and I was set in what I wanted because of what I had before. So maybe he has tried to find what he and his family likes but has not been able to. I just think we Have othere issues to worry more about versus what kind or where the president gets his dog from. Like I said a shelter would be ideal but we cant make his choices and I dont think we can judge him for something like that either.

He said he was going to adopt he should have stuck to his word even if he couldn't find the perfect dog. Politicans lie, sit back & relax this is just the beginning. Sorry I don't want to start any fights here but people have put him on such a pedestal, its like the second coming of Christ. He is only a man, he is only human, people expect him to change the world he just cant do it all.

I am sure with the resources of the white house they could have found him one at a shelter and had it flown in, there has to be one out there in some shelter.

The difference between kids and parrots is that it's funny when a parrot talks back.

He is just like the rest.  I really don't care if he is white, black, green, yellow or a "light" purple!  They say what we want to hear to get elected, and the outcome is always the same..  A failing and dying America!  I hope he does great things, but in the end he will just be like the last batch of presidents...Putting a Band-Aid on a wound that needs stitches :P

While I love all dogs, what I can't get is why create more mixed breed dogs when the shelters are full of them?  No matter what cute name you call them by, a mutt is a mutt!  Some the best dogs you could ever have are mutts!

Bfids, i know what you mean. a few years ago when i lived with my mom, she said i could get a dog as long as it was very small. Nothing larger than a pug. well i went to every shelter near me (which SERIOUSLY isn't many) and every one only had about three dogs to choose from and they were ALL either pitbulls, rottweilers, or labs all of which my mom said no. I looked for months too and nothing ever came up that was chihuahua-pug size so i bought a puppy from her friend who occasionally breeds chihuahuas.

I read that Obama settled on a labradoodle as they are supposed to be more hypoallergenic than most breeds. Some breeds are worse than others and one of his little girls has allergies.  But, I did see a picture of him with a 3 legged rescue dog a week or so ago. It was probably just a publicity stunt...poor pound puppy....used and then returned to the shelter  :'(

Do to some taking offense to negative comments on our president, I am going to proceed with extreme caution ,and just say, He has gone back on several of his words already, and if you are keeping up on his doings he has done 3 horrible things already,to put us at risk, all I can say is pray for the Americans safety.

I am going to lock this topic since we seem to be straying into politics. If you want to discuss the political decisions of the current president please feel free to start a thread in the (Not for Everyone) section.
