Canary at Petsmart.

My daughter Hayley and I took a ride to petsmart . I was in desperate need of nutri-berries! Well, I was looking at 3 yellow canaries. One of them flew from the floor of the cage to a nest, and I saw its little butt looked prolapsed. Or perhaps egg bound. I'm not sure. I've seen all kinds of prolapses in people, but never fids. It was protruding and was very red. I told the cashier and she immediately sent someone to check it out and assured me it would be seen by a vet. Man I hope so. This was no where near normal. I would hate to think of the poor little thing in pain or dying.  :(  Lets hope they are as good as their word.  :-\

The poor little thing  :'( I hope the got her right to the vet and no one buys her in her current condition. To think of what may have happened if you didn't go there today, you probably just saved her little life  AddEmoticons04239

It's good you brought this to their attention ASAP!  It sounded like there was general concern from the employee and lets pray they did the right thing ;)

Yes, very good job.  When I was little I wrote a letter to KMart, at the time they used to have fish there and the tanks were so dirty with dead fish in them that I left the store crying!  I hope that little guy gets some help!

A similar thing happened to me at Petsmart not very long ago.  A canary with a red, dangerous looking rear end like you describe.  The clerk said they would take it to the vet.  She said it came from the canaries picking on each other and it shouldn't have been so amny cacanries together, as they do that because they are territorial.  I know she took it out right away.  She seemed concerned.  I hope they did take it to the vet.  I did all I could do by letting them know about it.

I know they tell you what you want to hear sometimes, but I have found Petsmart to be the best of the bunch, at least around here. I told them once a little baby sun had a raw spot on its foot, and they attended to it, changed perches for comfort, etc. I just hope they really take care of it, not just throw it in the backroom. The young man who works that dept. has told me he has an indian ringneck and raises chickens, so I know there is at least one bird lover there anyway. I'm gonna call them later from work and see if I can find anything out. It very well may be a picking on thing...there were 3 in the cage, and the other 2 were snuggled up together.

Good job on telling the cashier about that poor canary! I think we're only supposed to have 2 canaries per cage, because otherwise they get agressive. Usually Petsmart is really good at taking care of hurt/sick animals, so hopefully they took it to a vet!
Keep calling to checkup on it, to make sure it's being treated.
