~~The Newest Member Of The Wolf Pack~~

Well now, many of you here know that not only do I have a house full of parrots, I also have what I lovingly call 'The Wolf pack'!  With 8 of them what else could I call them?!   

I've got big ones, I've got little ones, I've got in between ones...OK, maybe not in between ones. I've got one really HUGE one and now I've got another widdle one!!  Back up there a bit, Let me rephrase that and say, Jerry has another widdle one.  2 of the wolf pack, no no 3, wait 4 of them now are his fault! 

A bit of history on Jerry & his dog fetish. Way back in the dark ages (the 1980s) I surprised Jerry with a Pekingese puppy. He had always wanted one after he saw his Aunt's Peke when he was a boy. Kuei Lin lived to be 12 yrs old and Jerry wanted another. I already had 2 older toy poodles and didn't want anymore dogs. So during our truck travels across the US & back again we took my 2 old poodles, and added my Mom's really old toy poodle after her death.

In 2003 we were at a truck stop parking lot in Russelville, Arkansas. Jerry spies some puppies playing by a truck and says, "Oh boy, Pekingese!!  I told him those were not Pekes & he says, "They look like Pekes, what are they?" I say, "They are Shih Tzues." He says, "What's the difference?" By now I knew my ship was sunk & we were about to get another pup!! I tell him they are a little bigger, have a bit longer nose & a whole lot more hair that goes everywhere. And like I said we did leave that day with 4 dogs on an 18-wheeler we were only supposed to have one dogs allowed.  We still have Chow Yun, he is now 11 yrs old. 

Fast forward to the present time (we will skip over the rest of the pack's entry into our circle for now). About 2 months ago we were getting fuel at the local Stripes convenience store. I go inside for a potty break, (wrong thing to do!). I come out & see Jerry chatting away with the guy in the isle next to us. I get to the car & Jerry says, "Look, they raise Pekingese!!"  "And they have a puppy!!!"  Yep, you guessed it, they did have a 3 week old puppy and his brother they showed us & yep you guessed right again. We did put our dibs in for one of them. 

These breeders keep their pups til they are about 3 months old & have all their shots given before letting them go to their new homes. Yesterday was the day we met them and brought Patches home. (The breeders already named him & we left it as that) So everyone, meet the 'Newest Member of the~~Priddy Family~~Wolf Pack'  Patches!!

OMG! They're gonna' eat me!! (He hears the wolf pack barking)


Settling in by Daddy (Jerry) after a long stressful ride.


"Now let's see if Mom bought the 'good food'." "Nope same stuff I had at the other place."


"Now I gotta' figure out how to get outta' this pen."


"Hmm, not too bad at all. The 'wolf pack' can't get to me!" 


Wore out & finally gave up for a snooze.


Patches was so scared when he was outside and first heard the wolf pack barking inside the house. He screamed & ran as fast as his little stubby legs could carry him til he hit the gate. If it had been open I'm certain he would not have stopped til he got to the Canadian border!!  Once inside the house the wolf pack all tried to sniff & check the 'new kid' out. After a few mins it was like, "Hmmph, just another one we have to give way to & share everything with!!

Thanks Terri! Dave's dog is the best of both worlds with being a Peke & Poodle!!  They can sure make you get attached to them really quick, the little stinks!! 

Jerry didn't grow up with animals in the house. His Mom didn't believe in it except his Dad's one cat. I was raised with all kinds of animals in & out of the house including the kind most folks don't consider as pets like raccoons, jack rabbits, wild birds & many other. Before Jerry & I married I had a poodle, a cat, several pet rabbits & pet chickens. He wasn't too keen with the poodle in the house, but it was like, "Take me take my critters too!"  He did & has added more over the years himself. I brainwashed him terribly!!  (Now maybe ya'll can see why I kept him for over 36 yrs  )

Thanks Wendy! Jerry is elated with having another Peke in his life.  He doesn't get all "kissy kissy' with the animals very often like I do, so of course Patches is already changing from a 'Daddy's dog' to a 'Mama's dog'.  He still claims him & and the two Shih Tzus, Chow Yun & Shaolin, but Mom does most of the work with them.

Still a scardy cat about everything. Given how I know the Pekingese and Shih Tzu personalities (they are quite similar in a lot of ways) it won't be long til he is the bravest one of the group.
