What is worse than trying to put fresh food and water into a cage with one door and a cage aggressive quaker? Nothing that I know. He stands in the door blocking any attempt to put food and water into his cage. Could be quicker if we didn't have to use those lock tight crocks to keep him from taking his bowls out and throwing them on the floor. I tell ya it is hard to feed Frankie! We have to tag team it. One to try to distract him and one to reach into his cage. Even showing him that there is food in the bowl doesn't help. He still goes for the fingers.
Any suggestions?

transfer him to a stand while you are working in his cage. It could be a simple as the back of a chair

we have taught all out birds peek-a-boo starting with a baby wash-cloth, working up to a regular bath towel. We did this when we got MAX, remember he's NOT hand tame, and as soon as he accepted being covered with a baby wash cloth we'd scoop him up & transfer him elsewhere to put food and water into his cage. Of course now he'll step right up onto our shoulder so toweling him is no longer needed, but we still towel ALL our birds as part of their play-time just in case we NEED to towel them in an emergency.

Its all learning the right trick . The 2 macaws when the were together thought it was a game not letting me latch their latch.They would laugh while they lunged [I used a perch to distract them].

Yes, opening and closing his door is always fun.........for him. We just need to get a new thing going on with this new cage. In his old cage we could distract him at one door while doing things with the other door. On this one, I'm figuring out that if we can get him on top of his cage we can deal with the food/water bowls. So, now I have to find a way to get him up there willingly. The past couple of days he has been good about this so maybe we are both learning our dance here.
I still have a few things I want to do with his cage so that will definitely be a putting him on a different perch type of thing. I may put him on his boing and pull his cage away from that. We shall see.
Thank you all for your advice. He will definitely keep us on our toes! lol
