A few new photos of Sierra, my White Capped Pionus. She's still more of a hands off bird which some tend to be. And for quite a while she would not come out of her cage, her choice. She will be 1 yr old next month 3 days after my birthday.
Then when Dakota moved in to the house, she decided she was missing out on things and started coming out to hang out on top of her cage. She used to hang out on a play perch, but for now she is just content to walk the top of her little world and defend it from intruders.
I don't care who claims Pionus are not Amazons (yes I am well aware that Pis are a different species), this girl is a Mini Amazon in every way!! I've owned two Amazons many years ago, I know their habits & personalities and she is definitely like one, just in tiny form. "Hi There, I'm such a sweet widdle girl." "You wanna' come play with me?" "You lookin' at ME?!!" "Oh Hi again." "It's MY cage and you can't come over!" "Geez!" "Anger makes my feathers itch." "Does my butt look big?" "It's been nice chattin' with ya'." "Ya'll come back now, ya' hear!"

Thanks Debra, Maddy, Wendy & Judi. She is a very outspoken little stink!!
Her colors have come in really well and in the right lighting and camera setting they glow. I like her white cap too, it reminds me of a patch of snow on a fir tree branch.
Pis are definitely not a cuddly bird, but she has plenty of character to make up for it.

Thanks Terri. Sierra was 3 1/2 months old when I got her from my local pet store. They hadn't had her in for long. If you are referring to her not being a hands on bird, that is just a trait most the Pionus species have. As Pis mature they tend to become very aggressive (see the comparison I mention to the Amazon species). And the white caps are the most aggressive of the 5 regularly kept ones. Plus a Pi forum I belong to suggests that she is probably a he given the personality traits I have described. The males of the white caps are the most aggressive. I still call her a she since I have done so from the beginning and will keep it that way.
I'm really fine with not holding her or interacting with her in a huggy cuddly way. I have plenty of cuddlers and holders in my flock. When I need her to go back in her cage she will fly off and land on the floor. Then I am able to pick her up and scratch her neck while taking her back to her cage. We have a good relationship that works for both of us.

Thanks Blanca, I love that I have a varied flock. Kinda like visiting a zoo or maybe the Rainforest when all the different species come in to roost.
I know most of my flock would never be found in close proximity with the next. Or even on the same Continent. But this is my fantasy forest and I can have all species coexisting together.
