unleashed the beast!  5 lb meatloaf.  One of the best I have made for sure.  70% beef, 30% ground pork, concentrated french onion soup, and beef consomme, ground saltine crackers for the breading, celery salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, brown sugar, minced red pepper and onions, smoked with hickory/apple/cherry for over 3 hours and basted at the end with some Sweet Baby Ray's!  Served with root mash and homemade slaw..  Now I am ready for the festivities!

D....You have finally found the one meat dish I will NOT eat. :deer:

OK, liver tops the list & meatloaf is 2nd with sloppy joes runnin' neck & neck.  sad8
I was forced to eat meatloaf & sloppy joes as a kid when that was about all my Mom would cook when she did cook. roll And liver was her all time favorite to try to force me to eat. oh

I must admit I have never heard of anyone smoking a meatloaf or cooking it on a grill. dknow It is a baked dish around here. think

Hope it turned out good for ya'll & you don't have ta' worry 'bout sending any to me this time dmblaf...I'm good with the rib eye I broiled for our 4th of July meal. thumb

Yep tozie I did the same thing. I never forced my son to eat anything he didn't like. As a baby all he wanted to eat in baby foods was his meats & deserts (just like me). And he never would eat veggies til he was nearly grown. Even then it was a salad sometimes with almost no veggies other than lettuce. And he learned to eat broccoli in Chinese dishes, no other veggies. slaph Jory had his Flintstones too!! dmblaf

dinner Certainly was delish!  And usually our meatloaf is done in the oven or the crock pot.....I can see D out in the dead of winter smoking all of our dinner from now on!  I guess we will have to make sure he has a path shoveled in the snow to get to the garage to get to the smoker!  :twirl:

You can smoke any meat and if you know what you are doing it all comes out much better.  Rule of thumb is low and slow.  But with burgers and like meatloaf you wanna up the heat a tad and make sure you keep the meat moist.  Same goes with all the meat I guess as far as moister.  Thats why you inject, and or, mop (baste), and or stuff the cavities with moist stuff.  Hmm, that last part did not sound to good.  think  It's an artform that takes time to perfect, whether it's smokin meat (bbq) or strokin the meat (sex).  It just is  dknow  headhammer

D:
Its time to step away from the smoker. When you start thinking about stroking the meatloaf, its obvious you are suffering from smoke inhalation
