Posted this on BC too.  Can't wait for the reaction   I am an advocate for parrots.  If I feel anything will help their cause I will do it.  That is who I am and what Buffalo Parrot was created to do.

So true!  Great article.

I personally was scared ...REALLY scared to take on a rehomed parrot.  I didn't want to not be able to handle how to care for them.  How to basically rehab them.  What if I could not do it , then what..surrender them yet again.  The poor bird.

So I totally get why you want to get a bird from a breeder etc but OMG the amount of birds that need homes is horrible.  I wish I could help them all, it is so sad.  And the love and seeing the rehabilitation first hand is awesome.  It makes me so happy to see them taking steps toward a better life.  It is a feeling that I can't even explain.

I wish i could foster a parrot but my inn is full at the moment.  However, I don't know if I could foster anyway, i would fall in love and not let them go anyway.  LOL

i know exactly what you mean, ditty. when i first got skittles he screamed for hours on end. in the first 3 weeks i wondered if i made a mistake. but when our moment of connection happened it was like lightning. and i knew it was meant to be.  i think its that first leap to a rehomed parrot that's the scariest. i discourage most people who make the casual remark "oh! your birds are so smart! i want one like them!" That's when i pull out my scars on my hands and arms and start talking about skittles aka "the banshee of small town florida."
