Title: Julian's first Christmas
Post by: wishforabird on November 23, 2010, 06:42:09 pm
I put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving, so I thought I had better get started on his stocking!

I practiced first, then I chose the fabric.  I went with a beige with green and grey background for his body since he is mainly these colors, shimmery green for his new wings, dark pink and red for his tail, pink for his feet, a white patch for his eye, a green spot for his cheek, and a dash of pink for his little cheekbone spot.

I cut out the pieces free hand, and was pleasantly surprised he didn't come out looking like a duck or something, LOL

I discoverd a great new product: FABRIC GLUE! I pieced it together and glued it down..

then I cut out his name from a piece of green felt just to see if I could do it..

then I looked all over and found the PERFECT EYE BUTTON, really brought it to life.

so here is what I did with about 2 hours of my day.

Just a quick note, they sell stuff in a tube that stops the fraying.  Good job, Wishy. :hugu:

In a bind you could also take elmer's glue and water it down a tad and run it along the edges.  That is basically what Mod Podge is, a water based sealer, glue and finish.

That is really cool!  Is it flat or round?  I may have some glass ornies around but mine don't open up.  I had put feathers in mine, I made one for BP and BF moons ago.  It looks really nice with the tree lights coming through it.

thanks guys!!  :hugu:

I remember now, I got it at Rite Aid! it is a sphere and it opens at a hinge in the bottm, the problem is it is a bear to photograph because it reflects all the light in the exact center, LOL I thought it looked so cool with the Christmas lights I took pictures of it again, the one with him in the coffee table in front of the tree is going on the cover of some of my Xmas cards. I think I remember you showing pics of hollow glass sphere ornaments Mar that had feathers in them, I think i may do that with Victor and Stellaluna's smaller feathers  (the ones you find everywhere every day, LOL) Colbie hasn't molted any yet, he is too young!
