Title: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BPMar on October 23, 2010, 03:58:46 pm Share something that we may not know about you, your fids, family...etc.
No, I'm not asking to divulge too personal of tales, whatever you wish! We can learn from this in general, about each others fids/pets, family and tales! C'mon, :weirdo3: it'll be fun!!! :handshappy: K, I will go first! My grandfather was a professional photographer. He specialized in calendar girls (no neeked ones!) and worked with the Gabor (ZaZa/ Eva) sisters. Title: Re: Game! Something you didn't know........ Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 23, 2010, 04:18:40 pm okay if i dont know, how can i tell you? :dknow:
but anyway, something interesting? hmmmm  my grandpa could wiggle his ears... or maybe... i'm related to Fletcher Christian, who led the mutiny on the Bounty. my grandma was a Christian. She was born and raised in Christian's Bend Tennessee. I dont think its a real town, just an area that's called that by the locals. Title: Re: Game! Something you didn't know........ Post by: BPMar on October 23, 2010, 04:28:41 pm :slaph: I re-read it and changed it Tozie! It did sound just like you said but you got it right!
And ya never know....with talk of people's heritage and history it may help me with history...I am terrible at it! Title: Re: Game! Something you didn't know........ Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 23, 2010, 05:06:13 pm Hmm.
- My G.Grandpa lied about his age and joined the Army in WWI. That is where he met my G.Gramma in France and the rest is history. His G.Grampa also fought in the Civil War. Both had the same first name. My G.Grampa also painted billboards for businesses etc. The same as you see now but hand painted and very good. I had no idea he was that great of an artist. - My grandfather personally knew Jimmy Hoffa - I found out through genealogy that I am related to William the Conqueror and that would make Brook Shields a very distant cousin as I followed the line etc. - I also found out that one of my English lines landed in Massachusetts. They were the ships that immediately followed the pilgrims from Plymouth Rock. - There is rumor that I have a Mohawk gramma from the French and Indian War era. Many of my relatives were/are French Canadian and were settled there at the time, so it kinda makes sense. - I found documentation that I have 6 g.grandfathers that fought in the Revolutionary War. Two of them are my direct line (Same last name as me). They were father and son. I have documentation that they crossed the Delaware and fought at Valley Forge with George Washington. - I am related to Roger Mortimer who teamed up with Queen Isabella from France. Isabella was Queen of England and was married to King Edward II. Roger Mortimer and Isabella killed Edward and took over the throne. Later on Mortimer was beheaded. If you watched the Movie Braveheart the king in that movies son was Edward II and Isabella was his French wife who fell for Braveheart (William Wallace of Scotland). In the same Mortimer line I have a g.grandfather who fought in the revolutionary war for England which was not all that uncommon. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BrilliantFids on October 23, 2010, 05:19:25 pm My family came to WI from Switzerland sometime between 1840 and 1861. Our family tree can only be traced back to 1840, its said that before that our last name was something that nobody knows..nor does anyone know why it was changed or why the move from Switzerland to Wisconsin. The first recorded Brilliott is Ursus 1840-1900
I have one sister, 17 years younger than me. I have never had a drivers license Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 23, 2010, 05:23:24 pm ooh, now i understand.
my grandpa worked at Zug Island in Detroit, a Steel Mill. He was a foreman in charge of loading the boats that carried the steel across the Great Lakes. He was on the Edmund Fitzgerald shortly before it was sunk. (i dont know how long before, it could've been weeks or months. but i remember him talking about it.) He was full blooded italian, he was born here but i was told his parents werent. but his last name is different than the rest of his family. The dr. was "celebrating" his birth and wrote his last name wrong on his birth certificate. they didnt discover it until he joined the navy. he was a SeaBee (construction batillion) in the war. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 23, 2010, 05:54:05 pm My Mother's lines(French Canadian) last name was changed too BF. It was Sylvestre when they came from France, then combined that name with the new one which is Beausoleil, now it is just the new one. :dknow:
- I had double vision once when I was 8 playing football. I got tackled and my thumb went right into my eye. I got up and it was like when a film got stuck and you could see two frames. I was panicked and rushed to me grammie's house. I remember saying that I still had one good eye :slaph: Hmm, I wonder if that could have something to do with the problems I am having now with the same eye? - When I was 5 I once took a large cinder block and slammed it on the neighborhood bullies back :ashamed: He beat the *bleep* out of all of us and one hot day I was riding my tricycle and saw all the kids building a fort with him??? I got off and slammed it on his shirtless back. I quickly got back on my machine and headed home. All the way I could hear the housewives screaming at me out their windows :dmblaf: I got home and got a beating :sadboy3: - The first time I drank beer and got tipsy I was 15 1/2. I left the place and was riding my BMX down a street not far from me now that is one big hill with an intersection at the bottom. I went to break and my pants on the one leg got caught in the chain, then went to use the other and my shoe lace wrapped around the petal. :pipen: I was gaining much speed and knew I had to swerve off the road, and over the huge curb. I knew I had to eat it! Just when I jerk the whell guess what happened? The flippen handle grip slipped off and I hit the curb doing a 20 foot header :gimp: - I was 4 when I fist saw a chicken wing. They did not split them back then and you could still see the feathers shafts sticking out. I wanted nothing to do with it :ashamed: Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BPMar on October 23, 2010, 06:35:05 pm I think this is cool!!!!!!
-So let me ask you BF...even though you don't have a drivers license, how many times have you operated a motor vehicle? Or have you? My gram never drove either. -D, I never knew about the Jimmy Hoffa thing! And, it is not rumor about the Mohawk gram....We have seen photos. -My first kitty cat's name was Nosie, my first hamster was Shnooki! and my guinea pig was Amber. -I cannot tolerate to watch any movie even if it is animated if an animal gets killed. -My ggg(?)-gram on my father's side was the first white woman to enter the Black Hills of South Dakota and has written a book on it. Somehow, unbeknown-st to me we have Lakota bloodlines. Very hard thing to do research on given the era, records and status between the "white" and "red" skin folk. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BrilliantFids on October 23, 2010, 07:44:22 pm I think this is cool!!!!!! -So let me ask you BF...even though you don't have a drivers license, how many times have you operated a motor vehicle? Or have you? My gram never drove either. I took drivers ed, and held my permit for many years. I have maybe driven 50 times or less...i just dont like it. Though I love driving four wheelers lol I played soccer in high school I flunked out of photography AND sewing because at the time I hated anything to do with either subject...odd huh? When I was 3 or 4 I locked myself in my aunts pantry and ate 4 onions, like apples...they found me with tear streaked cheeks and partially eaten onions all around me. I didnt like onions after that until my early 20's In 2nd grade I got in trouble for telling dirty jokes...course I had no idea what they meant at the time LOL Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 23, 2010, 08:49:12 pm Ha, ha,! BF don't fret. In Tenth grade me and my best friend had a combined -19 in Math :slaph: Had to do it all again of course. Onions?? :laffhrd:
Mar? I forgot about the Mohawk photo from my gram, then again she died before you met her so how did ya see the dang photo? :thinkin3: - In first grade I was kicked out of "Catholic" religion because I rebelled from the constant knuckle whacking via a ruler! - In 8th grade a girl with Clogs kicked me in the Coconuts so hard I almost needed surgery :cwy: *bleep*!!! :bruce: Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 23, 2010, 09:21:00 pm mom told me years ago: when i was potty-training she found me in a corner with a toy vw bug. i had apparently had an accident and was shoving the evidence (poo) into the toy car so i didnt get caught!
i had a battle of wills with my first grade teacher. she insisted i was spelling my name wrong! i refused to follow the teacher's instructions. mom taught me to spell my name: BethAnn. with that capital A in the middle of the name. the teacher wanted me to use a lowercase A. mom finally had to go talk to the teacher to get her off my back. in 10th grade i had a battle of wills with the english teacher over favoritism. after telling her off in front of both my class and the next class i stormed into the dean's office to complain. the teacher got into trouble, the people who had gotten zeros unfairly got A's and i was put in the back corner of the class. the seats around me were cleared of other students for the rest of the year. and the teacher never spoke to me again. when she called role, instead of calling my name, she just looked up to see if i was there. i got a B in that class. D: owie!! bet it still smarts just thinking about it! Bfid: onions?! :vomit: Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: wishforabird on October 23, 2010, 09:41:40 pm I am so dern tired to post anything right now, but I laughed my keester off reading these!! :laffhrd: and I am amazed at the restif people would get to know each other, they could learn such cool stuff!! :wink1:
.my sis and I were in 4H and we were in a sort of talent/fashion show where you (kids) would show off what you made. we made drawstring tote bags (we were 4? 5?) and we were supposed to go across the stage a certain way.. we messed up but we were young so the audience thought it was cute (and it was just us and a school auditorium so no one really cared). I was mortified, my sis got mad at me for messing up (even though she messed up the same ways, LOL) and we strated to squabble. she straight-armed me sideways so i fell backward into the scenery (knocking it down) and everyone laughed. I was so mad I stood up again and bit her nose! I have had a HORRIBLE time with stage fright ever since and cannot speak, play an instrument or anything on stage-except for choir and chorus and that was 'safety in numbers' lol. my grandpa was first generation American in my line, worked his butooski off in the steel mills and USCG. before that he was a captain's son on the great lakes, he didn't want favoritism so he joined the crew under a false name. it is a tough job, and his dad died of a bleeding ulcer at the age of 45-50 or something like that, very young. WHen capt Phil died on Deadliest Catch it was a taste of what that must have been like, i cried for an hour. my grandparents were married in 1937, the THanksgiving DAy (since that was the only day most blue collar folks had the day off) after Grandma graduated high school! He was her prom date and I found her dance card and he had signed almost every line, LOL> He was shy and quiet, but had integrity for days. a REAL man. my grandpa was 6 years older than her and that must have sent some tougues wagging. They were married until last year, when they died within 5 months of each other. They were so attached to one another. she was the only one who never gave me and my hubby flack for marrying young. now I know why. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: Sondra on October 24, 2010, 08:47:33 am My Das family is from England, my Moms from Germany, both came to the US during WWII. Both lived in Cortland NY growing up. Dad would trade POWs items the POWs wanted for uniform parts. He had an extensive WWII collection worth a lot of money. Dad had a relative that fought in the Boar War, he kept a Cat-of-Nine Tails and a Dagger from that war hanging on a wall in his house. My father enlisted in the Air Force right out of High School, he had to wear a flight suit full of tool to make weight. LOL!
We are related to someone who tried to blow up Congress. My husbands Family is full Italian. He has a cousin who is a Congressman and an Uncle who is a Congressman. When we lived in England I went to a one room school house. At recess girls had to sit and sew - all the stictches had to be perfect OR ELSE! Little girls did not play and run! Needless to say I got expelled just a month before we came back to the States - unreasonable people! I was expelled from Thomas Jefferson Elementary School for fighting, I refused to be bullied and when a 5th grader started picking on me I hauled off and decked him. I was sent to Catholic School, where I was expelled for disobedience. I got hit on the palms of my hand by a ruler 1 time, the next time I removed said ruler from the Nun who tried to hit me with it, was sent to Mother Superior who was going to paddle me, took the paddle from her and chased her around the room until the Priest came in and subdued me. Same thing happened at each school, Catholic and public..............sigh......... I was just sticking up for myself!! I grew up in a household that held the oldest child responsible for all the other kids, if one got into trouble theoldest got beat for it, not the one who misbehaved - they got grounded. My last beating was with a baseball bat at 16. Back then it was OK to hit your child, even beat your child. Trips to the ER for numerous breaks didn't result in questions or investigations. I vowed I wouldn't do that to my children and was lucky I was able to keep that promise. It took a long time to forgive my childhood, and build a realtionship with my parents but it was worthwhile. When they died I was able to to understand they did the best they could with the their lives and I miss them. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: Ditty on October 24, 2010, 10:21:28 am I loved my step grandad Mel, he died when I was 5 but I always said I was gonna grow up to marry him. LOL Look out gram! haha
I was a dancer professionally while I was in school. Danced concerts on the common in Boston. My hubby's gg changed his name when he came over from Poland because he could not find a job. Polish people were dumb. So I am very happy since my maiden name was a ski also and then my married name would have been Zalakuski. :slaph: Hypenate?? :laffhrd: I always wanted to be a nurse, my mom has pics of me and my dolls with tp all wrapped around them as bandages when I was like 3. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BPMar on October 24, 2010, 01:26:06 pm See isn't this interesting to find out all these little unknown tidbits!
Onion eaters, poop stuffers, bullies....I have enjoyed everyone's tales! :handshappy: Debz, c'mon, share with us too!! :weirdo3: Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 24, 2010, 03:59:06 pm :ashamed:
but, yes, i do agree. great stories. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: lorek on October 24, 2010, 05:44:19 pm Wow, okay well, I have no idea any of my families history nor have I ever had any interest in investigating or learning it.
My first pet birds were chickens named chipmunke and Oreo. My first parrot was a tiel named ytic evorg (yeti for short). Uhhhhhh, I used to be an avid hunter. Up until my keen tracking skills led my family to use me to track my mothers unclean hits. It only took one look into the doe's pained eye for me to put up my gun forever. I still see it in my dreams. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 24, 2010, 05:56:52 pm oh! how sad! i could never hunt. i cant eat anything i've seen alive. meat comes from the grocery store at my house! lol!
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 24, 2010, 06:42:46 pm I am/was a big time fisherman and did hunt a little. I don't anymore similar to why Lorek doesn't. When I was 15 my good friend kept telling me about a Rabbit he was trying to get for a long time and the animal kept out smarting him. I told him to give me the BB gun (yes a BB gun) and went off to where he was saying. The rabbit jumped out of it's burrow and just stopped. I aimed and hit him in the spine. How do I know this? He kept crawling by using his front legs while dragging his dead lower half of a body across the ground. I then got real scared/sad and put another shot to the back of the head to end his suffering. It did not do the trick. He went into convulsions and blood was poring out like I had never seen :sad8: I quickly re loaded and ended it. To prove I was a big time teenage man I brought back my trophy to my friend. The animal was used for it's meat (not me) but it still haunts me to this day and will never again intentionally take another animals life :sadboy3:
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: lorek on October 24, 2010, 06:46:00 pm Hunting doesn't bother me. It's mostly far more humane than meat in the grocers fridge. It is also healhier, tastier, and better for the environment. I am an accurate shot and I only take clear shots. My issue was the encouragement (per se) of my mothers bad shot continually. Hunting, when done properly, I am still in acceptance of. That's just me. I see it as a sustainable quality food source.
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 24, 2010, 06:54:58 pm I have nothing against hunting, so long as it is done properly. And yes, with the lack of predators is good for the environment and the hunted species to stay healthier. My best friend is a big time hunter and I am always feasting on his meat. Me personally I just can't. I could if I had to but prefer not to.
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BPMar on October 24, 2010, 07:47:20 pm I am not against hunting, although I could only do it to save myself/someone or if I were starving. I am against hunting for sport. And when you look at it the way Lorek put it, it is more humane. :2sadk:
Something else you didn't know.......my dream bird is a Rose Breasted Too!!! :loveuk: :loveuk: :loveuk: :slaph:, Ok so most here already know that! :twirl: Title: Re: Game! My family blood line ends with me. .. uh-oh :oopse5: I have a feeling anything I write on the subject this evening will be dark. I think I'll come back to this. Title: Re: Game! It's OK Debz, we all have a dark side and sometimes it shouldn't/can't be told. There is some bad stuff out there in memory land. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BrilliantFids on October 24, 2010, 08:48:06 pm I think we could probably keep this topic going for a long time, as we remember random things. It is neat to hear all these things, the funny and the history alike :thumb:
I am lucky enough to have known several of my great grandparents and even my great great grandma. At the age of 26 I still have my great grandma, and knew my great grandpa for 25 years before he passed away. I also had my great great grandma until I was 12. And another great grandpa until i was in junior high. I love fishing I helped build a bio chemistry lab, 2 actually. That was a neat but scary experience..it was very high security, you couldnt eat or drink in the rooms because of the dangerous things stored there. That was the hardest Ive worked, but it was neat. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 24, 2010, 09:46:19 pm In high school me and me best bud pored a large amount of acid onto the sulfur rocks they provided. The school was evacuated due to the massive stench. :dknow: A week later we stoled a huge bottle of ether and huffed it. We both passed out and when I woke my friend was still out with the samich bag sucked into his throat :ashamed: We survived with mass headaches for 3 days and had a nice school punishment to top it off. And my kids wonder why I worry! :slaph:
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: wishforabird on October 25, 2010, 10:01:39 am OMG D! that could have ended VERY BADLY! :Oh:
my son could never be a hunter, he cried when i killed an injured cricket to put it out of its misery. he is still ticked at me whenever the subject comes up. (it was half squished, I had to! ! he says his last memory should be of a shoe coming at him. *sigh) my hubby was caught in the act of sneakingout one night and pretended to be sleepwalking! the bset part?? THEY BELIEVED IT!! :bugeye: Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BrilliantFids on October 25, 2010, 11:00:28 am my hubby was caught in the act of sneakingout one night and pretended to be sleepwalking! the bset part?? THEY BELIEVED IT!! :bugeye: LOL! I got busted sneaking IN once... I had worked that night and after work I rode with some friends from work to a party. I drank far too much and made friends with a bush (ouch!) on the way to the car. I got home and mom was waiting up for me...So I (obviously not thinking clearly) Covered my eyes...like if I couldnt see her she couldnt see me. Got up to my room and put on Pajamas then stummbled back down and acted like I was up getting something to eat...she didnt say much that night BUT the next morning she woke me up early to do senior pictures...oiy! D...OMG! You sound a lot like the stories I have heard from my old teacher of my dad in high school (he was eventually expelled for releasing snakes in the school) Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 25, 2010, 03:12:53 pm Both incidences occurred via my science class. The sulfur thing was not dangerous, just REAL stinky :dmblaf: I don't know what possessed us to do the ether thing? :loco6: We were not allowed back in that class for a while
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 25, 2010, 04:31:37 pm ya'll are cracking me up! :laffhrd:
D! OMG! that is just too scary. i got caught sneaking in once. mom was in bed (so i thought!) so i came sneaking in the front door. she was sitting in the livingroom in the dark. she said "where ya been?" i said "we're out of coke. i walked to the store to get some." she says "so where is it?" i told her "i threw the empty bottle in the ditch." she didnt buy it. i got to spend my whole spring break babysitting my sister (15 months old at the time) to save her the week's daycare. on firday i called her favorite radio station and dedicated "take this job and shove it" to her for making me babysit.... but i didnt mention that i was doing it for punishment. they played my story on the radio for her and all her friends to hear! she yelled at me for twisting the story. :ashamed: but didnt really get mad, she told me when i got older that she thought it was funny as heck. :dmblaf: when jess sneaked out, i did the same as my mom. i sat in the dark til i saw her leg stick through the window. when i saw it, i turned on the light and i said "i hope you had a good time cause you're grounded." got up and went to bed without another word. i agree, we could do this forever. as we remember things. my great grandpa called me feathertail. he said cause i strutted around like a rooster. when he died in '78 we went to tennessee. we visited an aunt i had never met. they had a true old fashioned watercloset. they didnt have any running water in the house. and still had an outhouse, tho they rarely used it since they had gotten the watercloset. they had pigs and (being a city girl) i had never seen a pig in person before. i was amazed. i expected a cute little pink guy with a curly tail. they were black and white and dirty and their tails werent curly! and they were HUGE!! hmmm, i'll think of more. just give me time.... Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 25, 2010, 04:50:01 pm ooh! debz jogged my memory....
my Nana and Pa (grandparents) lived with us until i was 10. dad built on their own "mother-in-law's suite". basically a room on the back of the house with it's own entrance, bathroom, and was located right off the kitchen. it was great for me, let me tell ya! anyway, one day i wanted to go to a garage sale down the street and mom wouldnt let me. so Nana had a "garage sale" in her room. complete with little sticky tags with prices. i bought: a blue beaded necklace, some matching clip on earrings, .... and her old set of false teeth!! i always wanted a snoopy sno cone maker. i was an only child and got most everything i wanted. (spoiled too!) but not that sno cone maker. so when my kids were little i bought one for them. i spent more time playing with it than they did! Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: wishforabird on October 25, 2010, 05:52:24 pm I feel like we are sitting around a campfire :) this is AWESOME
Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 25, 2010, 06:23:53 pm Ha, ha Tozie! When I was real young I wanted an easy bake oven :shh2: Even back then I wanted to cook and have me own darned oven. Just didn't do so because I knew my friends would tear me a part.. D's got an easy bake oven!! :hardlaf:, yada, yada :ashamed:
This also just came to me and has confused me since. I was 4. We lived in North Buffalo at the time and the yards were close together and separated by a chain linked fence. Our neighbor who was an old man had all these awesome different colored flowers (Tulips?) that he babied. When you are 4 you think adults can do anything, unless it was just me? :dknow: Anyhoo while I watched him I saw a bird sitting on the fence. I calmly asked him if he could catch it for me? He gingerly walked over and did!!! With his bear hands and handed to me! I was ecstatic and ran into the house bird in hand only to get repeatedly wacked with a towel by my gram. She told me to release it immediately :sadboy3: Just weird. To this day I think of this and wonder how he was able to catch this wild and healthy bird? Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BPMar on October 25, 2010, 06:34:21 pm Wishy, I will go get the smores!!
A commercial actually made me remember this one.....My very first job as a cosmetologist was at Fantastic Sams....waaayyy back then everyone had to go by a company appointed nickname, we had Sunflower, Annie, Cookie, Dandylion...I was Sparkie!!!!! :slaph:  I think this is all giving our memories a good jog! Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 25, 2010, 06:45:49 pm Sparkie? I think the guy probably was outside so much the bird trusted him, my dad did that once too, I will never forget his HUGE hand encircling this little birdie face sticking out like out of a birdhouse door. but i think that bird was hurt. or a baby or something. I wanted an easy-bake oven too. my son loves to bake, he gets upset if I bake without him. :dmblaf: my love of animals came from my mom. she gave us hamsters, rabbits, fish, and eventually a dog. we rescued several (one at a time, LOL). she taught me that they hurt and they get scared, but not to the extent i teach my children. she is of the generation where animals were kept "outside" but she bucked "tradition" and let us keep them inside. my grandparents didn't approve when they would visit, but my mom just took the critisism. my mom could be really cool, when she was around. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BrilliantFids on October 26, 2010, 10:34:58 am Wishy sounds like your mom was kind of like mine as far as animals go. Growing up I always had pets, the first pets I remember are Max our old Doberman and Bunnicula my first bunny. When we had Max and the bunny we lived on a horse farm, there was a shetland pony who was dubed mine. Her name was Goldie...I rode her all over Camp Tuckaway. We moved from there when I was about 4, Max and the bunny had passed away by then. Then we got a yellow lab, a cat and some fish. this could go on forever so ill sum it up..following the lab (who ripped 80% of my cousins face off) we had Guinea pigs, Hamsters, a mouse, a rat, a goat, a horse, Our cocker spaniel and Rottie, and Ringo a cat who my mom still has (hes like 19 years old or more). She worked at a vet and almost took in a cockatoo once, his name was Rudy and was my favorite patient at the vet clinic.
Speaking of the horse farm, there was a pond there that we used to swim in. My dad and I were on a raft and I fell off, was too young to swim so I sank. Dad dove under to find me but it took a bit, I almost didnt make it out of that pond. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: BuffaloParrot on October 26, 2010, 11:52:35 am -My dad was born on beggers night (Oct 30) and my mom on April fools day :slaph:
-None of it was planned but I was divorced, remarried, and worked my last day at the hospital after 9 years all on June, 25th -I joined chorus in 3rd grade because I wanted to be around a girl I liked :ashamed: LOONIE.. You kill me :laffhrd: Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: Ditty on October 26, 2010, 01:03:26 pm I loved horses growing up and every bday I would go horseback riding with friends. I always wanted SHAW who farted like there was no tomorrow! :laffhrd:
I always had pets growing up, a springer spaniel named champ, 2 rabbits named Donny and Marie, my kitty Frosty and later my teil named Cricket. I always hated meat. My dad would make me eat it, I would spit it in the plants, give it to the dog, dig a hole outside and spit it in there and cover it up. :slaph: So as soon as I left home I became vegetarian. And then proceeded to marry a butcher. HAHA really! My first job was a library Page. Before that I volunteered as a Candy striper. I was a cocktail waitress in college for 1 day. Got fired the first night. :2funny2: I dumped a drink over a guys head that had some roaming hands. hey he deserved it! Lucky that is all he got! :bruce: But we did have REALLY skimpy outfits so I think some of the patrons thought it was ok. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: looniebirds on October 26, 2010, 02:06:25 pm Huh. I CAN TOO milk or a goat, or at least I used to know how. 5 every morning and evening. You have a milking stand with a headstall and a tray where you put oats or sweetfeed to keep them occupied. Actually, it isn't too bad, goat's milk that is. This occurred in a very unpleasant time of my life, but I don't regret learning to do this.
So if there's every a major cataclysmic event, and all that's left are us guys and a nanny goat, at least we will have milk to drink, and maybe some cheese too. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on October 26, 2010, 04:18:10 pm a goat!! :bugeye:
ya'll are just too funny! B'fid: a Lab attacked your cousin?! wow! that sucks! is cousin okay? i'm assuming somewhat scarred up? wow! i always loved animals. my mom is an animal lover, but only would allow our one dog. i wanted a cat so bad i couldnt stand it. when i was 9 i was out walking the neighborhood and found a stray cat... a black one. i dragged this poor cat 4 blocks to my house and fed it in the garage. when mom saw it, i swore it followed me home. as a matter of fact, i never admitted i dragged it home with me even to the day she died! lol! his name was midnight, we had him a year but he died of feline lukemia. :sadboy3: this was in 1979, so it was still kinda unknown... at least in our neck of the woods. the vet said we had to wait 6 months to get another cat or the new cat would get it. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: Sondra on October 26, 2010, 09:23:59 pm While married to my Ex I worked at drag strips where I was the starter. I have stood between 2 jet cars (several times) and started them. I also worked For NHRA for 20 years at time slips. I love my memories of those races.
As a child we had rabbits, cats, dogs, snakes, frogs, gerbils, turtlles and 22 rats all at the same time! The one thing our animals had was a good life! LOL! Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: wishforabird on October 27, 2010, 08:43:29 am OMG Sondra that is AWESOME! ust like in the movies!!! you reminded me of this: my dad raced an MG while he was stationed overseas, then a little while when he came back.. rusted to a heap in the backyard when us kids came along :( I think I have it in my blood, I sometimes imagine ai am coming out of the pits when i am going on an entrance ramp to the highway! LOL! I want to open it up and fly SO BAD. :siren:
He is a member of the SCCA and he took me with him to races on the weekends where we would camp RIGHT next to the racetrack with the other workers. Nothing like waking up to 29-40 porsche 911s, classic jaguars, cobras, shelbys etc. roaring around getting out the kinks!! in the years after high school (and before babies) I worked in the big officials booth taping and collating and counting cars, it was an awesome experience. I even got to take my dog, and he was so good he would just sit in my lap and sleep as we would work all day. (he was older by then). then at night we would all hang out by the campfire until we got sleepy, then tomorrow we would get up and do it again. :weirdo3: :towel: :handshappy: Title: Re: Game! It happened really fast, my dad turned to answer the phone and when he turned back around my cousins face was mangled. I was in kindergarten so he must of been about 3 years old. He was in the hospital for a while, and had several surgeries to reconstruct his face. He still has a couple scars, but considering the severity of his bites they are pretty small. He is 21 now and still loves dogs, he knows it was his fault Poncho bit him and never had any bad feelings toward him. We did have to have him put down though, they city ruled him un safe....he truly was a great dog though. Title: Re: Game! Something we may not know...... Post by: Sondra on October 27, 2010, 07:35:48 pm When I first started working races I was a Tech official, would do tear-down, the whole 9 yards. I was in Canada when Shirley Muldowney crashed, they wanted me to help get her out of the car (what was left of it) & ride to the hospital, but I declined. I also ended my career with NHRA (still get asked to work every year) with Tech & time slips. I would test fuel on the pro cars to make sure they were legal, then when time trial were over I would work time slips. I do miss the racers! I've declined dinner with John Force, had dinner with Kalita, Bernstein, Amado, Garltlitz (Spelled wrong), and drinks with a host of other big name racers. I always refused the A$$holes. I've been in some of the racers trailers and I'll tell you they invest as much in thosre trailers as they do their cars, especialy their living quarters! :bugeye: I've even started cars at the summer Nats, the Keystone Nats, and at Indy, that was when Buster Couch was starter and needed a break to eat lunch and check his blood-sugar and take his shot if needed.
