Title: Can You believe!!!!!????....
Post by: BPMar on April 01, 2010, 07:57:12 am
So I am up this am early as usual.  I couldn't go forage through the bookcase to get some books so I searched online for training tips, techniques to formulate a plan for a training session.  Don't you know, I think it was the first site that came up suggests the "water bottle/squirt gun" method!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :bruce: :loco6: :slaph: :pipen:
I should go back and find the site and ask how they suggest, if you have an aggressive or a hands off parrot that you bathe them.  What if they don't or won't bathe themselves in their water bowl or another bowl?????  Suggesting you carry a squirt gun around with you????  Is this not ludicrous??????   :ugstpd:  Really pissed me off!

So how would that work anyway?  Clyde [ringneck] likes to be sprayed.  That is how I give him a bath!  So if a bird is screaming, that is what they want you to do?  If they are like Clyde, they might consider this a reward!  So then they would scream if they want to get sprayed. [Clyde]  That was how the previous owner's husband would "discipline" Clyde for screaming, even though the lady said not to.  But that was and still is something Clyde likes.  So Clyde was rewarded for screaming.  I still do this sometimes when  Clyde screams, not as a punishment, but as a distraction, I have never seen a bird scream and preen at the same time.  To deliver a stream of water in any animals face is cruel.  I have used a water pistol at cats before, but not in the face.  It really doesn't work, though.

eeeeerrrr and someone will read it and think its okay  :pipen: just because it is on the internet it must be true!!!

My clients with the scarlet used to squirt her when she screamed and you should have seen her when I tried to give her a bath, you would have thought I was killing her  :slaph:

I started my search with aggressive parrots or something like that.  I did go to Ken Globus's site which his brother is still keeping up but some of his stuff up isn't pertaining to what I need.  I looked into Chet's stuff a while ago...I will look again but I am remembering something I didn't care for but I don't recall what.  It won't hurt to look again as I may still learn something.  Gonna look through our library of books here and see what I can find.

I think what we need is an exorcist!  Last night I calmly went in with my hand and everything looked good.  I slowly went to scritch the Demon and what do ya know?  2, 1/4 inch puncture wounds on me finger (Blood included).  We need a preist! :julio: :ipray:

Well I have all the books I need out and will read all the different suggestions they have.  I will even attempt Chet Womach's way with Julio (he does the stick training...I forgot the other name for it) if needed.  I am not sure I agree with his ways but in Julio's case I will attempt almost anything.  Steve Martin (not the actor) is also a specialist in training although I haven't found any vids that are helpful.  So now to formulate a plan!  :devilwink:
