i used to have a single male redfoot but he seems so lonely. he would walk round the house looking for a female all the time, making this sad whistling sound. :sadbigeye: i never really had any time for him so i ended up taking him back where i got him. last i heard, he was a happy guy with his own harem :dmblaf: Title: Re: Meet the mobile rocks Post by: Mandi on May 28, 2014, 11:02:20 am Mine do snuggle up together
But in the wild they are solitary till they get together to mate I'm hoping Norris is female so I don't have to split them I did have a baby sulcatta till recent, I felt I wasn't doin enough for her so iv let a friend have her who also had 2 others It gutted me but knew I did the right thing xx Title: Re: Meet the mobile rocks Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on May 28, 2014, 01:09:15 pm that's how i felt about my red foot (Sunni aka Turtlebutt... its a long story :ashamed: ). i hated to let him go, cause i really LOVE tortoises, i just find them amazing. but i'm sure he just wasnt happy here.... if a tortoise can be happy. ya know? i felt like he wasnt getting what he needed here. tho the guy at the store said he was the healthiest, best developed tortoise of that size he'd ever seen. ya know, no pyramiding, nice healthy feet, good bright eyes, etc.
Title: Re: Meet the mobile rocks Post by: Debra on May 28, 2014, 01:17:47 pm I know nothing about keeping tortoises. Can you tell me how you do it? Do you keep them in a pen or a tank or something? How do you play with them? How do you know if they are happy or sad or depressed? Please enlighten me as to how you care for one. Who knows, I may talk the hubby into getting one or two one day. lol
Title: Re: Meet the mobile rocks Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on May 28, 2014, 01:35:34 pm unfortunately i only had the vaguest idea of what i was doing. :dknow: so i'm probably not the best person to answer the questions. but i can tell you how i cared for MY red foot. food was very similar to what i fed skittles and marley. fruits and veggies. they also have pellets for them and you must sprinkle calcium powder on their food. they must have full spectrum lighting as well as access to heat, usually in the form of a red light. mine often ate the parrot pellets that skittles dropped on the floor! :dmblaf: i had a pen for him (about 5 feet across) but often let him wander the house. this is what gave me the idea he was unhappy. he made the saddest sound, a kind of whistling sound. he was looking for a mate, i'm told. of course they arent precisely a cuddly creature, he did seem to enjoy me running my nails over his shell. :loveuk: they can feel even that light of a touch on their shells.
