Title: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: Mel on December 01, 2011, 07:33:23 pm I have a Sun Conure (Caesar) who is less than a year old and is already picking up words ("Step Up", "Stop That", and "Pretty Bird") He's trying to say something else now but I can't quite make it out yet. Is it normal for babies to learn to talk this soon? Is my Caesar just a smarty pants? (I like to think so, so feel free to lie to me if you want! :dmblaf:)
Title: Re: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: Sondra on December 01, 2011, 07:43:04 pm Birds are like humans, they all develope differently. Some birds know for their talking ability don't/won't talk at all, while others you can't shut up.
Title: Re: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: steptoe91(tozie) on December 01, 2011, 07:47:04 pm yup! i'd say Caesar is a mr smarty feathers. :smile3:
but honestly, sondra is right. i think it also has alot to do with how much people talk around them. i have a caique that talks, they are not known for their talking ability. and while he doesnt talk nearly as well as my amazon, i understand him perfectly, as does my son. i guess its kinda like a human toddler, mom and dad understand the young'un perfectly, but everyone else just smiles indulgently. Title: Re: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: BuffaloParrot on December 02, 2011, 01:08:34 pm We have a Black Capped Conure and a Lineolated Parakeet and both species are not known for their speech. Both of them are the biggest talkers out of all our Parrots and never shut up :stupid1:
Title: Re: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: Ditty on December 02, 2011, 01:15:58 pm I also think it depends on how much the humans talk to them. But it depends on HOW they talk to them too, like the tone and such, excitement in the voice...
Yoshi was talking at 4 mos old. His first words were Step Up , and Good Booooy due to the fact we were training him :dmblaf: Title: Re: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: Mel on December 02, 2011, 03:27:51 pm thanks everybody! I guess its a matter of individuality and training, not species. Incidently, Caesar just picked up another word today: "Hey!" As in, "Hey, Pretty Bird" and "HEY! Stop that!"
Now if I could just get him to eat his spinach! Lol! Title: Re: Talk, Talk, Talk Post by: wishforabird on December 02, 2011, 07:09:37 pm yeah, he is a gifted bird LOL.. congratulations! talk to him A LOT as once they start talking it is easier for them to learn new words, (that barrier in the brain has been surpassed) and the younger the better. good time to really do training too... as for the spiniach? bake it into cornbread, he may like it better :thumb:
good to hear from you! |
