Parrots should be able to file down their beaks themselves, so they usually don't need any trimming at all. However, there are times where either they have a scissor-beak, or it just simply overgrows. In my experience, there isn't a certain "length" where it's too long, just look at pictures of other birds of the same species to compare them. :) I know of someone who was babysitting a diamond dove (she didn't know anything about birds, unlike the owner) and thought the beak was too long, even though a diamond dove's beak is going to be a little long naturally. So what did she do? She clipped the beak! The poor dove died from blood loss. :'( THe lady felt soo bad, especially when the owner came home and saw what happened! So overall, be very carefull when you think a beak needs a trim.
