The finchie-doodles are normally egg laying machines but you know what slows them down?  Lack of natural light.  I found this out by accident.  The finch cage that has light from a window has laying pairs, the cage that relies on artificial bulbs hasn't had any eggs laid in months.

I like all my birdies to get some natural light, or light through the full-spectrum bulbs, but this gives the girls a break during the year.  I rotate the two cages so each group can get some natural light...but then I'm removing eggs a lot.

The Parakeets are in front of a window and guess what's going on in there all the time?   stupid1

And Debz?  How do you snork oatmeal out your nose?  All I can picture in my head is the spaghetti making machine that slowly oozes out noodles.  hee hee.

*deb puts on her proffesors robes and adjusts thick bottle coke glasses and clears throat..

Yes, P&B.. The amount of sunlight IS an environmental factor that contributes to breeding behaviors.  You can attempt to reduce the chances of egg laying by keeping them on a strict sun up to sun down schedule.
*removes dusty stuffy robes*
As for the oat meal, it takes years and years of dedicated goofy food snorting practice to get to my level of projectile nose elimination. In fact, I teach a coarse on the subject at the local community college.

Anni laid an egg this morning slaph  Mar found it broken on the bottom of the cage.  I am not worried about her egg laying but Mar said the egg was soft.  That kinda did worry me and she will get a good Calcium/Vit D3 supplement tonight.  These guys are outta control lately! headhammer
