Well, as many of you recall back in February kiwi had his foot bit pretty bad by my sun conure Gino and he lost the tip of his toe to the first joint on his left foot. Well this led to being an influence in rehoming Gino (and forest) a couple months ago. Well, since then things have been better. Until yesterday. Sometime while I was at work yesterday, dart got out of his cage and decided to go gallivanting onto the canary wings cage. And damage he did. Both kiwi and mango have feet wounds, just one toe on kiwi but two toes on mango. One of which is swollen pretty bad on mango. I soaked thier feet promptly in nolvadent and gave mango the one dose of baytril I still had on hand. I called the vet this morning and we agreed it would br alot of stress for him to ride the 45 to my vet when he knows we have done this before. So later this afternoon we will pick up some more baytril and see how things go for the next few days. If it looks worse on Friday we will take him in.

I am quite frustrated and upset with this as I have no idea really how he got out. I thought we had moved beyond anything this aggressive when the pair of troublemakers were rehomed. Eeryone day when I see kiwi having a bit more trouble maintaining balance bc of the toe he lost I regret what has happened. I wonder how I could have let something like this happen. And now, it has happened again. :(. The few points of good news though, dart seems to have remained totally injury free (hth do you do that and yet injure two other I don't know) and luckily he also managed to not get onto andi's cage where he most certainly would have suffered. She obviously can do some damage. So I will let you know how things go :(

dont feel bad lorek. it happens. we have all got fids that are not compatable, housed under the same roof.  and sometimes sh!t is gonna happen.  it really sucks when they manage to escape and you (supposedly the superior being) are standing there scratching your head going "how the heck did you do that?!!" i came home a week or two ago to twiggy standing on ollie's outside perch.  bugeye  i looked her over pretty carefully cause she is already missing part of one toe. and, like you, i was pretty freaked out. the potential for damage  was huge, but somehow she escaped. rather than focusing on the bad, think of how lucky dart was to have avoided andi's cage. you hang in there, you'll figure out how the little houdini managed his escape.  hugu and you'll plug the hole.... and he will spend hours trying to figure out how to unplug the hole!  dmblaf
you're a good parront, dont ever doubt it.  grouphug

Victor is in LOVE with stellaluna, she is just not into him, if she were to get out, she would eat him whole and spit out the bones!! she nips his toes through the bars as it is, he is smart though, he always ALWAYS sits on the perches when she is out!   smile3

Ohh gosh, those pore little toezies lost forever.  2sadk
Eventually we all find ourselves questioning our parronting skills. We can't foresee the future, and those little buggers are in many ways smarter then us! Just as we think we are sliding into a comfortable homey pace..*WHAM* we get hit upside the head with some wild parrot smarty pants!
They have all day to figure out how to undo latches and crack the number code on a combination lock! Fiendishly clever they are! Moriartys of your domain!!!

Oh man!  Sorry to hear this happened.  But with all of us this stuff will eventually happen in some way.  Julio once escaped through the top latch of his cage.  He actually unscrewed one of the screw to the latch.  I now have a super thick cable tie around it for extra insurance.  I came in the room to see him farting around on the top of the cage.  If I was not home and did not catch this so quick I do not want to know what may have happened.  In our case it turned out ok.

He got out again this morning within an hour while I was still there. So before I left for work I setup the old cage for them and put them in that. I can't have that. There is one place where there is a small gap... He must be squeezing thru that. Oh well that's fine. Got the baytril and blue stuff again so later we will continue on the meds.

Wrap some thick cable ties around that gap.  That should do the trick.

Just move them back to thier flight cage. I don't want any more accidents. Kiwi will be fine but he's cranky. Mango has one toe I'm worried about but his others all look good. They are fully on thier meds tho now. And boh are active enough.
