Ok I have a moth problem.  Grrr Did I mention how I hate bugs!?  When I got HW we brought his cage and all of the stuff in at 1am so basically put the stuff the lady gave me in the cage and called it a day. When I awoke to change the food I noticed the moths in there!  AHHHHHHh  well I obviously threw it all out.  but it was too late.  I have them flying around and it is driving me nuts.  I have read things about these traps so I got some at home depot.  I put the little red pheramone thingy in the glue as stated and that was days ago.  Got nothing. dknow  Am I doing something wrong??

I hear ya there sista!!!!!
I don't even want to talk about them!!!  But I will.....
Off the top of my head the only thing I can think of is that the trap is for the wrong kind of moth?  What is the name of the ones you bought?  I have never been able to find any except at one pet store.  I got mine on Ebay........
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Catchmaster-Moth-Traps-Indian-Meal-Pantry-Flour-Moth-/180576996921?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0b3a4e39

We had a very bad problem with them.  I put up a trap and it is filled in a matter of minutes!  If you have room or an extra fridge if you keep seed/pellets in there it will keep them bug free.  Although a little gross if you think anything is infested...live moths, cocoon thingys...if you put it in the freezer it will kill them.  These things are a pain in the ass and will/can get into your other pantry things as well.  If your problem is bad get a few traps and put them near the cage/food/pantry.

I had one brand that did not work too well ......"Revenge"

i never used the traps, we started to have a problem. i put all my seed that appeared to be moth free in the freezer. i threw away anything that had even a small sign of moths or webbing away. i also cleaned out my cabinets cause they were getting into some of the things i'd bought the kids that they never ate. then, i put all pellets, nuts, seed that was left from my cleaning in some completely airtight containers, not just ziplock baggies. those arent good enough. they can get through them or something.  for about a week i kept the cages completely clear of extra seed. i cleaned the bottom of the cages completely daily. i scrubbed the  bowls with dawn and threw away anything in them even if they were still okay. i only put a little seed in the bowls for that week. didnt starve anyone, just didnt have alot of extra for them. and gave them extra fresh food. i still see one every so often, but i've managed to get rid of most of them. and keep them at bay by keeping extra food in the freezer and the stuff i'm using in airtight containers.

I would like to know how they do get into sealed things....like cake mix or whatever.  They get in the box and the wrapper...I have even had them get into baggies, and sealed containers!  :bruce: Darn things!  They even got into Zeus cookies!

the only things i've found that they cant get into is the sealed, airtight petfood containers from walmart, and some airtight containers that i got at the dollar store. i almost wonder if they can lay eggs on the bag or somehow through the bag. like a stinger or something?  dknow but i, too, have noticed that plastic bags are not good enough. it must be hard plastic container that has a perfect air and water tight seal. if there is the slightest gap, they infest it. i had a bag of food that i hadnt opened yet, that they had managed to infest.  and i had two bags of almonds that were unopened that they infested. i threw away about $150 worth of food, but i have only seen a few around here. but the new bags i bought, went straight into the large airtight container and they are fine so far. i only keep about 2 wks of food in that container, i freeze everything else. the double sealing of putting it in the plastic bag and the airtight container seems to be working tho.

my problem right now is flies. nasty creatures. disgusting. but the whole stinkin town is infested right now. and i keep the window flypaper up (ya know, the marley catching paper! lol!) and everytime i get the house clear, they come in when we open the door.  :bruce:  but its not just around my house. they are everywhere in town! bad!

yeah maybe I will try a different kind.  I got a brand called Safer.  It had the most number of those little nasty critters listed so maybe it is not the right one.
I got to do an order from Foster and Smith anyway maybe will try theirs.

I got a bag of dog food and when i opened it up it was infested, :silence:  i drove back to the store with such a case of heebie-jeebies I could barely drive, LOL! now I OPEN the bag of dog food when I buy it, if it is infested; I turn it in. if not I buy it.

I heard the traps work really REALLY well. I have not needed them..yet. but you never know.. when I bought a sleep hut it had the cocoons inside the folds!! my bottle of poop-off wipes had them too inside the flip top lid thing! it came from the pet store like that! I FREAKED. so you never know you are bringing them home, the traps don't hurt.

I keep forgetting to buy them  ashamed we re having a fruit fly problem right now..and potato bugs!!!

it has been warm and humid and gloomy all week so far, what happened to fall!?

I think the weather is playing a big part in the bug problem.  slaph
