Here is a pic of Yoshi's flight feathers.  I see this little downward blip on the flights and don't see it on any other birds, only quakers.  Any idea why this is there?  Curious  I guess.

Look toward the end of the flight and you can see the downward little blip in the feather, I know it is normal for qp's but dunno what it is for.

downward blip? do you mean the wee bit of fraying at the edge of one of the flights?

If that is what you mean it's from over preening or preening too hard.

ooh oooh!!!! i know this one!!! its in my quaker book, pg 4.
i quote:
ornithologists call this unusual feather shape "notching" or "emargination" these feathers facilitate slow flight, manuverability, hovering, and backward flight and Quaker parrots are not the only parrots with emargination....

they list the male princess parrot, sengal parrots, and red fronted macaws as also having it. it is on the #2,3,and 4 flight feathers (counting from the outside)

Wow, very cool to learn something new! thumb  I will have to check Kito to see if he has this.  I will probably get chunked trying to spread his flight feathers though slaph

Lemmie know what ya see D when you look at Kito.  Like if it is exactly the same.

The frayed end of the second feather is from me toweling him, he is getting fed up with momma checking every day to see if the blood feathers are in yet so therefore he was pissed!   lafin2  But when you look at the very 1st one, (the longest )you see the notch at like 1/2 inch from the end.

Kito does have these Ditty.  They are a tad more rounded but he definitely does have this.
