I propose we all go and weigh our birds (today if you can... Or most recently if you can't) and let's list species and weight for all our friends. I think it would also be interesting to compare to any info on thier wild cousins weights.

So if you want to list your birds weights and species (and subspecies) as best you can I'll see if I can find wild cousins weights for each species too and we can compare!!!!  I feel my stats coming out!!!! :)

ps.  Also if you can add whether or not your bird is clipped or flighted.

Okay here goes:

kiwi - canary wing parakeet - flighted - 60g

mango - white wing parakeet - clipped - 62g

tumbler - green cheek conure - flighted - 67g

dart - green cheek conure - partial clip - 68g

anduin - illiger's macaw - flighted but never flies - 254g

this leads more credit to andi being an illy girl too. Says females have much less red (knew that) and that the avg weight for illys is 265 where as severe macaws are 354. So despite her lack of a red belly (though she still hasn't had a complete molt yet either) I still think she is fully illigers macaw.

okay, great idea. between cooking some bacon for lunch <snicker> i've weighed everyone except ollie. he wanted nothing of the scale or even stepping up for me. so here's the verdict:
skittles 1064g  scarlet macaw
twiggy 124g   quaker parrot
marley 134g  black headed caique

now they havent been weighed in about 2 or 3 months. my other scale quit working and it took a while to buy a new one and then a while longer to open the package, lol!

now a comment on size:
skittles is approximately 12 inches tall with a tail that's another 22 inches or so. for a head to tail of 34 inches. he's fairly lean, definitely not as obviously overweight as ollie is.
twiggy is approx 5 or 6 inches tall with a tail of another 5 or 6 inches. for a total head to tail of about 11 or 12 inches. she wouldnt stay still, lol! she's pretty fluffy, it's hard to tell the dif between fluff and fat.
marley is about 6 1/2 inches tall with a tail of 2 1/2 inches for a total head to tail of 9 inches. he appears very lean.
of course the measurements were done with a sewing tape measure on moving birds so all measures are approximate.
i find it very interesting that marley weighs more than twiggy but he's leaner than her. she's definitely fluffier. i was also surprised to find their bodies are about the same length. she appears much bigger than him, i'm guessing its the long tail.  marley has also lost 3g since the last time i weighed him. i'm thinking all the flying he did. tho, that weight will probably come back. or maybe its the scale. it could be slightly off. i use it more for consistency than exact accuracy. if its always off by 3g then its not a real problem.
i would love to weigh ollie. i'm thinking he weighs almost as much as skittles but that's just a guess based on him being on my arm one time. skittles weight is more spread out cause he's taller so it may just be an illusion of distribution. a small 4lb bag of sugar seems to weigh more than a bigger bag with 4lbs in it. idk why. i'm sure it has to do with physics.

sorry missed that part.
marley was for several months, i'd have to go find something to cue the time for me. i wanna guess it was 4 to 6 months but i could be way off.
twiggy is but she very rarely flies any distance. i've trimmed her feathers recently cause she kept getting on skittles' cage and nearly get eaten.
skittles is growing flight feathers but hasnt flown much. usually only in extreme circumstances. and his wings move alot of air! when he does fly everything in the room moves! and he's never flown more than a few feet.  he does do flapping exercises tho.
and they all have extensive climbing opportunities.
