I have been talking to someone who has offered to host a new website and buy a new domain (domains purchased through webs.com cannot be transferred, which is our case) for just a single payment of $15. Dad is currently paying almost $100 a year for just the site, not to mention all of the forums.

I have had a demo set up for awhile but had no place to host it, so everyone can now see it. It is located at http://buffalo-parrot.com/. I will keep you guys updated with the site, I'll be working on it every day.

Also, you can access the forums by going to http://forums.buffalo-parrot.com/. The forums will not be effected by this. You can still access the forums the old ways, too.

The site is FULLY customizable, so anything you guys want to see I can add. It's a full HTML (PHP) website that I'm doing myself, so it might take awhile. Report all bugs or errors in the site here. Thanks!

That's $100 a year, too.

It is looking good Eric.  Just remember all that this is just a Demo thus far.  www.buffaloparrot.com is still the main site as of now.  If all goes good with the demo than we may switch everything over

And the forums will stay the way they are, just so people don't get worried about all that.

I have a friend (whom I've never met) who uses HostGator, and he has 500gb of bandwidth and he pays $300 per year. He doesn't mind letting us use a portion of it, considering Dad's site takes up only 1.7gb of bandwidth.

Hey, everyone! Just whipped together a better logo, better showing off the "Buffalo" portion of our name! What do you think? It's at http://buffalo-parrot.com/

Also, I want everyone to look through the website, tell me what they do and don't like and what they think should be changed. I really don't like the color scheme of whole site, but don't know what to change it to. I'm also thinking about adding small advertisements... a little something to bring in that little bit of added income for Dad. Everyone's doing it, nowadays.

What else, anyone got any ideas?

i dont see anything wrong with a few reputable advertisers. site looks nice. very informative.  i dont think the colors are bad. i think more parrot pics.  the pics will draw people. just text sites have less traffic. maybe throw a little humor in some of your information. just straight info is pretty abundant on the web. it'll make yours stand out more if you throw some parrot humor, amusing examples of some info, maybe pull some stuff straight from the forum. we have some talented photographers (bfids), amusing birds (bella), and comedic members (debz). new bird owners are always looking for info on species. when i first got marley i scoured any site that said anything about caiques. just some thoughts.  smile3

All of the text is pulled directly from the current website (and of course edited by me for grammatical errors and to be adapted for the HTML site), not my fault if it's not fun. :P I will add more pictures and stuff later to make it more "fun", but for now it's all information, as that's the most important. Things like the Ultimate Parrot Quiz will be hard for me to do, and will take a long time, but it will be better than the system we have for now. I'll add a lot of interactivity but like I said, I'm not all that good at PHP scripting and it will be a little difficult. Those things come last :)

As for looniebirds, what security system are you using? You must have something blocked, or be able to unblock this particular website.

AS A NOTE TO ALL USERS: Internet Explorer 5 and lower will NOT be compatible with this website. The dropdowns will appear behind the header image. If this is your case, try downloading Mozilla Firefox.

No no no! I didn't take it as criticism! Well I did, but constructive criticism! That's what I asked for! Lol, everything's fine, all criticism is 100% welcome in this thread.
