If you read the faby pics post you know that Basil and Baxter have another clutch going. I had intended on removing the nest box once the last faby was out and stopping them from double clutching. As they say the best laid plans  slaph I caught them mating before Lassie had fledged and I knew I was in for another round of babies. Yes, I could shake eggs but I refuse to bring death with my hands ever again. A few days later Basil kicked Lassie out and made it clear he was not allowed back in and laid her first egg. She stopped at three and then something odd happened. A couple of days later I caught them mating again and the 4th egg appeared 6 days after the 3rd. There are a total of 5 now and tomorrow will tell if there will be 6. I have already prepared myself for the possibility of hand raising some of these babies should they all hatch. I will have to wait and see if momma can keep up with so many. Most likely I will pull the first 3 once the 4th comes along if need be.

Then we have another sex crazed pair of maniacs who have absolutely no access to a place to nest or dark corners and who are kept on a strict daylight restriction schedule. Lighthouse and Billy have decided they need to play mom and pop or try to anyway. Three days ago I caught them trying to mate. It was unsucessful and I was hoping any further attempts would be as well. With Billy having no tail I was hoping there would be a balance issue and he would be unable to properly mount Lighthouse...they proved me wrong! So now I am unsure if it was truly sucessful or not only the appearance of an egg will tell. I am not giving them a box at this point, still hoping they didn't get it right. If she lays an egg on the floor of the cage then I will give her a box so she can have privacy and feel comfortable and safe with her clutch. I am very surprised that they have mated without any of the norms needed to spark the interest in mating. They even have Moose in the cage with them, he moved in a little over a week ago due to his brother deciding he needed to fight over trying to get attention. Toes were getting bitten and I don't want anyone to get hurt. So even with an onlooker they decided to go at it  bugeye It's not something I had planned for or wanted but it is what it is as of now. I have had bonded pairs of male and females together in the past and I have never seen something like this happen. I swear there is something in the water out here!

Mar & D, I now know the frustration you feel with Jane! We have got some naughty fids on our hands! I wonder if there is a sex adict program for parrots out there  thinkin3

Wonder what more kinds of interesting mutations you will get. They must be happy with thier environment :). And good for you for being prepared to hand feed knowing it might be a possibility. You will have nice healthy babies and I am sure you will be able to find them good homes :). Good luck sophz!!!

Why don't you seperate them so you don't have all these babies? Just wondering....

I have no idea of what you are talking about!  bugeye
Yeah, we have had more of our share of egg laying to last us a life time!!!!
If Jane were to go crazy again I will think about the Lupron.  We have seriously done everything and she still lays away.
You certainly will have some beauties!
 thinkin3 Could you separate them?

Well I'm not sure about her guys but if they are anything like dart and tumbly it causes too much stress to separate them. While tumbler doesn't mind so much it just makes dart a mess to the point that he would rather pine and try to get to her to the point of not even eating correctly.  At some point it no longer made sense to keep them separate for MY benefit. I chose to live with parrots so I will deal with what I must. I have so far had no more problems but I do expect it to happen again at some point. I will take it as it comes. Sophz may have the same situation.

Yep, we could never separate T&J either.  Jane would probably pluck herself to death and Tarzan would tip the cage over doing his Unga Bunga dance to get to her.
It's hard to understand how it happens when we do everything we are "supposed" to do....but then again I guess you can't control mother nature that much.

Yeah, seperating them is not an option. Basil and Baxter would lose their minds they are so bonded at this point and with Billy and Lighthouse since they have bonded Billy's feather chewing and stripping is down by 90%. I would feel horrible if I seperated them and he went back to chewing. LH is pretty darn happy to have him too, she has gotten much nicer and does not shy from me now when I go in the cage to clean it and give food.

Yeah, I see what you mean Soph. Thank god Dex and Morgan are perfect angels and I have never seen them try any monkey business, but if I ever did try to sepereate them, it would literally kill them.
