I have been thinking about breeding budgies for business. Budgies command good demand here. They are the cheapest parrot to start with. I can't do it in my house because lacking in space. As I was driving home from work this afternoon, something struck my mind. My sis in law (my wife's sis) who stays walking distance from us has a big compound in her house. She was the one who bird sit for us when we were not around and she loves animals.

I thought of building a small aviary for budgies and cockatiels. I will come out with all the expenses because my SIL is not working. She will provide the land and workmanship (caring the fids). We'll split 50/50 from the sales of the fids.

Since her husband was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph recently, they do not have any form of income. The only person who is working is their daughter and her income can hardly sustain 4 mouths in the family plus their doggie, 5 mouths. Probably this project would help to provide some form of income to them in future if successful.

My wife is meeting her sis now to propose this mega project. I think it won't be cheap to build the aviary plus buying some budgies and cockatiels. It would cost a few K.
I hope this project can kick off successfully.

I hope it all works out for you! I'm sure you'll do a great job at it. It may take awhile before the $ starts coming back, as the parents will obviously have to lay, sit on, and wean the babies. Will you be handfeeding them?  I'd definitely try to do cockatiels as well because of the great pet-qualities they have :)  I currently have one walking around on the computer desk, and he's just the cutest thing!

Well, as for me I am scared of those little pink aliens. hmm

You will do great but don't forget to think of if the parents decide not to feed what you are going to do.  If you are handfeeding that = no sleep, just like a baby.  And they need feeding all throughout the day so figure out that too ahead of time.

Just playing devil's advocate.

My SIL agreed to the plan but she has to ask her husband permission first before the project can be executed. Handfeeding is not a problem because my SIL will be the one who is doing it. Since she is a house wife, she has all the time.

First I will say that I know the culture where you are is different than here.  Second I just have to say that I am not for breeding Parrots for profit as there are so many homeless ones already out there to begin with.  My first loyalties are to my beloved parrots and this is how I feel, sorry E.  I am not scolding you but I felt that I needed to state my feelings on this is all.  Peace peace

with how well E takes care of his fids, I bet he will put a paper with the baby telling the PROPER way to care for it, maybe good bird care will start with this aviary in his region because he will be dispensing education with budgies :) you have a great opportunity here to change the ignorance of bird care.
