Yes that is the same Hot dog, his owner was not calling, coming to visit or paying his boarding fee, so he is now going to a new home.

Just got two more Cockatiels in, and we got 25 calls this weekend on birds. The numbers of un wanted birds are in creasing at a very alarming rate, all I can say is please think about it before breeding your birds. the shelters are full and are now putting birds to sleep.

That is how people need to think, they need to think rescue first. Its so sad to see so many wonderful birds sitting in shelters.

The calls for birds needing to be given up is getting really bad, I have gotten 47 calls in 3 days  oh  I just took in a 3 yr old Goffin from Buffalo, The people who brought him were at a garage sale, and saw this bird living in the mans garage, while there the man got upset at the bird for screaming and he ran over and grabbed him from the cage by his neck :pipen:  So these people decided to convince the guy to let them take the bird. These people are not bird people but had to help, they went and bought him a beautiful cage and toys and then brought him here..

Also got a call for a M2 who is only in her teens and has been in 8 homes already  cwy I am told she is very sweet,, also from Buffalo. We are working on foster placement for her..

We have a U2 coming in Friday from Maine , who has a truck drivers mouth, she swears in sentences and very clear.

We also have a Quaker coming from M.A Friday who was found flying outside and no one has claimed him, so we are sure he was a release  cwy He is at a humane society right now and they are transporting him here.

The number of calls coming in is getting very upsetting, Bird lovers really need to pull together and get laws past to protect these birds !

So many sad stories and I have gotten a couple of calls to help place birds too I think the poor economy it really starting to catch up with a lot of people and I don’t understand it but looks like they give up pets first.

So glad those people got that bird away from that man at the garage sale  :pipen:

OMG, Those are awful stories!!! sadbigeye cry

I do have an up lifting story...My vet friend has a Green Wing Macaw that I think is like 7. She wants to get rid of her bc Her daughter is (bi pollar)  and is abusing to the bird, plus my friend just lost her unemployment benefits bc the extensions ran out.

My friend thinks she mean- the bird.
Ive clipped her nails before and visited with her and this poor bird doesn't even resemble a GW Macaw. She is tattered and torn looking and very thin.
Ive walked in the door and walked straight to her and held her and petted her and talked to her very sweetly and she was calm and sweet to me. Terri had told me that she never acts that way.

So, My Step Daughter has decided to take her!! handshappy towel and Terri is going to GIVE her away and her double cage!! handshappy handshappy thumb

My (S) ** Hate that phrase! Daughter- Renee has 3 birds and Terri told me that she is willing to let her go because Im going to be involved with the rehabilitation of this bird!!!!
Im very excited to be stepping up to the plate and going to be involved with helping them all.

I wish I could take her, but at this moment, I simply cant afford her neither. Charlie, Axel & Rose are so spoiled....I just cant see bringing someone else in...People tell me that you cant see Charlie for the toys on his cage, but Geez...He comes out and plays for hours keeping himself busy...I cant help it thumb

So, This will happen this coming Saturday, I pray...We are going to the Bird Show Saturday morning and they are meeting up, so I hope we will be spending the evening moving *Lola and setting her up in her new home. worship

Wish us luck!, Just had top throw a positive spin in this forum....

I wish I were closer to help with the rescues!!! hugu

B and I both have good jobs, but had to come up with almost 1800.00 in unexpected bills last month. Mortgage payment goes up 75.00 a month starting this month. We have been living on hot dogs and hamburgers. Taco Bell was a treat the other night. But the fids are fed, and the dogs have their Iams. We go without for the kids and the animals. Had to had my daughter 125.00 this morning to pay a fine. Man, it just never ends sometimes, but the last thing I would consider would be rehoming my dogs and fids to save some money.  A commitment is a commitment, whether its to a person or an animal.
And thank god they rescued that fid. Imagine if that's whet he did in front of someone, what goes on behind closed doors?

“My brother and sister birds, you should praise your Creator and always love him: He gave you feathers for clothes, wings to fly and all other things that you need. It is God who made you noble among all creatures, making your home in thin, pure air. Without sowing or reaping, you receive God’s guidance and protection.”

the things you see... it just floors me. thank goodness i believe so strongly in karma. if not for that belief that those people will get whats coming to them i dont know what i'd do.
how much trouble do you expect to have re-homing mr.pottymouth? is it really a big problem? (skittles still has most of her colorful vocab thanks to the old owner...and my teens wont watch their mouths around her.)
i couldnt get rid of my angels. guess i'd just batten down the hatches and ride it out. i remember before i got married. i had 2 cats and a bull mastiff/rott mix. he was 120lbs. one week i'd buy groceries the next i'd buy pet foods, back and forth! i just ate really cheap. it never crossed my mind to get rid of my pets.  there were sometimes two weeks i wouldnt eat any meat at all. but lots of pasta! lol!

Unfortunately all do not share the same love that we do with animals, and who suffers- the poor defenseless critters.  I wish more were like we all here are.
Axel, thanks for sharing that story!  It is good to hear of the happy ending and we would all like to hear updates.
When we adopted Taj & Mahal one of her Macaws had quite the potty mouth.  I guess I should be thankful that the worst thing that comes from our flock is Kito making a fart noise thanks to D!  :twirl:
