I make the parrot bread and the mash...they are enjoying that this morning. I need some new ideas. What do you make special that you feed your fids that they go nuts for? I need something I can give to the finches, canary wings, budgies, Bella, and the QP's.  Nothing big that needs to be cracked open, etc. Suitable for little beaks too.   dinner

i havent made it yet but i bought the yams to do the cooking while i'm on vacation this week. i got the recipe from the book The Healthy Bird Cookbook.
yam puffs
1 cooked large yam, mashed
2 tbs orange juice
1 cup grapenuts or granola
grated apples
3 tbsp margarine

preheat oven to 350. boil yams saving the water you boil them in. melt margarine and combine with the mashed yams, orange juice, 1/4 cup of cereal, and if needed, some of the water from the yams.
beat well and form into small bite size balls. roll in the remaining cereal. place on buttered cookie sheet. top with the grated apples. bake for about 15 minutes. cool and serve.

it sounds like something the birds will love and with the yams it should have lots of vit A.

it sounds kinda lazy next to the yam puffs...but i give the birds instant fruit and cream oatmeal almost every day with their fruit and veggie breakfast. they all love it. they dont all eat it everyday, but everyday at least one of them eat it.

One thing mine go ape for is eggs with peppers, carrots, and apples.  Just fry it, or you can put it all in a coffee mug, mix it and nuke it.

I make them eggs...hardbolied and scrambled with shells, peppers and tomatoes...like a western omelet without onions.
And mine will not touch oatmeal. Wierd because they eat the mash with steel cut oats.

I really think I have spoiled them. They really do eat better than the humans in this family.

Do they like pasta?  All of our flock does....little Syd will often fall asleep with a noodle hanging from his beakie.
Broken up spaghetti noodles work well for all the sizes, corn, peas..all favorites of our flock.

They had pasta in their mash today. Also had spinich, tomato, wheat pasta for supper the other night.  Maybe I should just say the hell with it and give them all twinkies!  bananarama  Hey...a twinkie lasts forever so it won't spoil in the food dish. I could suck all the cream out and put some mashed winter squash in them. Yes, I would sacrifice my girlish figue eating all that delicious artificial filling for the sake of the flock!    hardlaf
