Arty, I didn't forget what you said one time about the fate of some racing pigeons who get lost and are returned to their owners. sadboy3

On this other forum I go on, the lady has a pigeon that has taken up residence at her place.  It is very friendly and is banded, she says it may be a racing pigeon that had been lost.  When it came to her it was undernourished and ill.  Happily, it recovered.  One other lady suggested finding the owner by the band, and I thought of your words and I replied that  I would have done the same before I knew what I do now, and proceeded to tell how some pigeon owners really do not want back birds that have been lost, off course, or ill, and that when returned to these people, the birds are destroyed.  I asked her to just let the bird be and continue the food and shelter.  I said let it go about finding the owner.  I hope she will.

By the way, I don't know if this has a place here in the Chronicles, but if it needs to go somewhere else, I am sure D will take care of it. thumb

Just wanted to make sure you saw this .

Peace.

 thumb Loonie!
I would rather her keep the little one as well if the original owner would do anything detrimental.  I hope she does!  thumb

I don’t remember the story from BW but it is sad but interesting why wouldn’t they want them back if they got lost or went off course? Is it because they fear they will do it again or lead others off course?  dknow

The difference between kids and parrots is that it's funny when a parrot talks back.

A homing pigeon that can't find its way home is useless to them. They don't want to put the time and money into their care and upkeep.

Bless yer heart!, I am sending my luv and a sincere wish fer peace to you and yer family!
Some Racing Pigeons are worth a great deal of money, these birds are used for breeding.
A common racer is worth maybe 10 bucks, and yes...a racer that can't find his/her way home will be terminated.
Can't make me money.....so why keep you.
Fact....many times, the owner will say "Keep the bird", the last thing a "Good Intentions Person"...wants to hear!
There is 200, 400, 600 mile races, these owners surely will not drive or cover the costs to return the bird to them!
Basket culling, when multiple birds are entered into a race with no training...easy way to rid there loft of un-wanted birds and they can sleep at night knowing they didn't snap the cullers neck!
The Hypocracy, "Oh I love my birds and the SPORT!"
The SHAME!, Thousands of cullers are introduced into the wild to fend fer themselves, these birds "Hopefully" find feral flocks and are taught how to survive!
The Sad Reality!, these birds help to contribute to the numbers, mass poisonings, using the killer avitrol!
The Bird of Peace, better know as the Dove aka the Pigeon once adored and honored, now has fallen from grace!
If you do find a bird of peace, and the bird is banded, please help the bird, feed and water the bird, they are there fer a reason, they need your help, and they wish you........PEACE!

BrokenWing.

P.S.
Yer words to me belong....right here in BrokenWing Chronicles!

I don't think my words to them were received well by some over there!  I had almost added to take the band off the bird's leg if possible....whew what a stink that might have caused! bugeye  Some will heed, some won't.  Maybe will make someone think. thinkin3
