Yes, that's right. Basil + Baxter = Babies! Some of you may remember that I mentioned I had caught the two of them going at it like a couple of rabbits on speed in a thread that Mar posted about T&J a few weeks ago, well it stuck!
When CT had pnuemonia I spent most of my time caring for him and just did the basics for the fids, so papers went a couple of days without being changed. This gave Basil enough time to make herself a little nest of paper tearings under the water dish. When I caught them going at it and noticed her plans for under the water dish I didn't want her to lay any eggs on the floor of the cage out in the open like that so I got them a box and within a few days she laid her first egg, which did not make it. It got cracked or squished and it was soon gone without a trace left. It looked like she may have eaten it  oh She laid 4 more after that and I was unsure that they were going to hatch, she laid them in the corner of the box and often I could hear them rolling around. This Saturday I woke to the peeping sound of a baby and another baby hatched out today. So far momma is doing great with them and she is very protective and still keeps them toward the corner. I don't get why the corner is so appealing but hey, maybe she knows something I don't. As you can tell in the pics she has been using feathers and bits of hay in there but doesn't seem to use them for the babies  think Here are a couple of pics of the wee little aliens, the next should hatch on Wed and then the last on Fri. I know I'm really late on posting the news, with having back to back visitors, CT and his new school and just life in general I kept getting side tracked. I can't wait to see what kind of color pattern they will have with Baxter being pied, it's going to be so much fun watching them grow up!

loveuk  Oh my gosh!  I tell ya it's the water!!!!!  Sweet little pink aliens!
This will be a great learning experience for CT as he watches them grow!  You should let him have the camera so he can document their growth and make a scrapbook!  He could take it into school!

The difference between kids and parrots is that it's funny when a parrot talks back.

OMG...it is in the water. Bfids just had babes. Please lord,   spare me this gift!  laugh   Congrats to you , even though they were accidents. It doesn't make you love them less...or very few human kids would be appreciated either!

Thanks everyone  hugu I'm going to try and keep a photo log of the wee berns each time I check on them.

There sure is something in the water! Now that there are peeping baby noises to be heard Lighthouse had gone into I want a baby now mode  slaph She has been tearing up paper, burrowing under the paper and when she and CR's are out playing she spends all her time trying to will her way into B&B's cage to try in get into the nesting box. I keep telling her no you can't have babies  stop I sure hope she listens.

CT thinks the babies are pretty cool. He's only seen them once as I try not to bother momma too much, she gets really mad at me when I open the box. What a good little protective momma she is  loveuk I'll be checking again tomorrow to see if baby #3 has arrived.

BF~ I know you have had baby budgies before. Do your momma's tend to lay the eggs right on the floor without nesting material under them? I'm a little concerned about the babies getting splayed legs. I'm thinking about adding a small amount of hay and placing the babies on top but I don't want to risk getting her mad to the point where she abandons them.
