FIRST AID KIT SUGGESTIONS

Here are some suggestions for items to include in your First Aid Kit:

Small notebook and pencil; Penlight;
Towels; Paper Tape;
Small zip-lock bags for holding samples such as emesis or unusual droppings;
Small bottle of general disinfectant; Alcohol Wipes;
Syringes (insulin or TB, 5cc & 10cc);
Antiseptic salve; Aloe Vera Gel;
Bottle of normal saline or artificial tears for flushing eyes;
Q-tips; Gauze squares; Vet Wrap;
Small bottle of hydrogen peroxide (use carefully can cause tissue damage);
Small container of revitalizing solution (pedialyte or sports drink -- replace frequently to avoid expiration);
Quick-stop (for nails & beaks only);
Small bag of powdered sugar/flour mix to stop bleeding of flesh wounds;
Tweezers; Small nail file; Small pair of scissors;
Small pair of wire cutters; Small needle nose pliers or hemostats;
Band cutters;
Liquid bandage and/or "crazy glue" for emergency skin repairs.
and an Emergency Guide (available from Creative Bird Accessories, PO Box 2157, Darien, CT 06820)

My first aid kit is contained in a plastic box (similar to a tackle or toolbox) available at most general merchandise or office supply stores. I picked the one in the brightest possible colors. My housekeeping is not always the best and I want to make sure it stands out when I'm not thinking clearly and when I'm in a hurry.

Fixing a broken Leg
SETTING A BROKEN LEG:
Unfortunately it happens that a baby (or adult bird) suffers from a broken leg ... The following advice was given from a vet: "Cut two pieces of 'cloth' adhesive tape, align the bones as well as possible and place one piece of tape on one side and the other piece opposite. Squeeze the tapes together down each side of the tape with forceps, as close to the bone as possible, and then cut the tape close to leg, maybe 1/16". After this, run a bead of 'super glue' down both seams and let dry. The super glue holds the edges together and also strengthens the tape, ”A perfect little cast."

Fixing a broken toe
RESETTING BROKEN TOES (SMALL BIRDS):
Breeders have successfully used super glue to "weld" the broken toe to the neighboring toe. Eventually the toes become unglued on their own and the broken toe is perfect

I tend to most medical issues within my aviaries, if your bird is sick and or injured, please consult an avian vet.

Animals & Pain
Lets take a look at this with comparison, When we humans stub our toes we jump around on one foot and say “G_D D__M That Hurt…OUCH..Son of a B__CH..oh ho oh.
Now lets say you bird is out and about and you accidentally step on a toe the Bird Squawks loudly while jumping around on one talon saying G_D D__M That Hurt….OUCH Son of a B__CH why don’t you look where you’re walking?
Soooooo to this bird fancier I would say Yes…animals feel pain.
