I remember when you first came into my life, you were so tiny then. A wee little one who fit in the palm of my hand. I agreed to raise you with every intention of finding you a good home when you were big enough, little did I know that day that you would be spending the next 13yrs by my side.

When you were 3wks old you came down with pneumonia, I thought I was going to lose you but you showed me what a great fighter you were. You never lost that fight, you kept it and made it through multiple surgeries and liver disease. I am so sorry that your last fight couldn't be won, you tried so hard, you were so brave.

I have so many wonderful memories of you Gus. Like how much you loved to sneak out the door just to roll on the cement. Most times you would just soak up the warmth and the dirt as well but there were a few times that you bounded across the grass leaving mommy to chase after you. You loved to play catch me if you can during those bounds.

Oh how you loved paper bags! They were a favorite of yours to conquer!

Then there were the boxes that you never thought you were too big for.

One of my favorites was when you would do your bunny rabbit impression.

Over the years you always accepted any other pet that I brought home into the house. You knew just how much I loved you and that I would never replace you. You were such a good boy and never gave into your kitty instincts to eat a birdie or chase a mouse.

Seven years ago you met Georgette. She is the complete opposite of you and yet you loved her so; even when she would attack you and pin you to the ground for no apparent reason. She misses you so much Gus...

You were always looking out for me. When I was sad you were there, when I was crying you were there, when I was lost you were there. You always knew just how much comfort I needed. You also knew just who should or shouldn't be in my life in terms of men. I can remember many a guy got a stiff paw to the leg if you disaproved! I knew each time you were letting me know they should be sent to the curb for pick-up and out they went!

Together we shared in so much life! Such a trooper you were through all the moves we made throughout the years and all the life changes. Always ready for the next adventure! You have meant so much to me, you will always be my baby, my GusGus and no kitty could ever come along and fill your paws. I will miss you dearly my friend. I don't know yet what I am going to do without you. I am so sorry that I couldn't save you from being sick and give you all the years that you deserved to be on this earth. I know you are free from pain now, looking down from above. You will forever be in my heart. I miss you my dear, sweet boy...

Thansk for all the hugs and thoughts everyone  hugu When does it get less hard, when do the tears stop? Twice today I could have sworn I saw him out of the corner of my eye and I so wanted to call his name and have him look up at me but he wasn't there. I just want him back in the worst way. I so wish I could have saved him, could have done something more but I know in my heart that it would have been selfish of me to have put him through that. Chest tap after chest tap is no way for any kitty to live and he would have hated every minute of it. There is an emptiness now and I just don't know what I am to do with it...

you saw him out of the corner of your eye? he is still with you, he knows you did everything you could.    It does get easier with time, the pain never goes away completely, but it does get easier to bear, I know it is hard to believe it right now.  I have found this past year that grief comes in waves...sometimes you just get your head above water and then another comes..  2sadk .sometimes they are further apart.  I think the break between the waves gives us a chance to catch our breath.  Writing the tribute the way you did is a first big step to healing, talk about him all you want, it helps, grab CT for a good cry, I am sure he misses Gus too..and is sad because you are sad.  It teaches him that it is ok to cry when you hurt, and that he can share his hurt with you in later years.  Put a framed pictureof him in a place of honor.  go over memories of him with those who knew him, "Remember when he..(did that silly thing).." this helped me..
this new raw pain can seem almost unbearable, we are here for you.....

Feel better.  kiss2
It was the same with Bobby. Bladder surgery after bladder surgery....no way for a cat to live. You really need to consider quality of life, which you did. And I think you made the 100% right decision.
Its still so raw for you. Time will dull the edges after a while. Hang in there...it will get better. And we all grieve differently...you will do it in your own time and way.
