What you could so is become an LLC which means that you can't get sued if something happens. It's like insurance. I think it's just a one-time payment of $700, and then you can use that LLC privilege for anything you want. So if you wanted to switch to a different product alltogether, you could.

With a LLC (LIMITED loss co.) are you responsible up to a set amount, or totally unresponsible?
I would see if there was a small business group in my area and pick some brains. That would be a good way to start out......

I don't mean to be a downer, but you do need to protect yourself.

you do have to protect yourself ,the regulations on pet foods is not as strict as human foods, here is a idea make a batch of your food with the labeling on it and take it to Dr. A and see what she says, this is something that could be Veterinarian approved  afro.gif

After much thought I do not think I will be doing this.  There are just too many messed people out there and without being able to cover myself is not worth the worry.  I really did want to do this and just shows again that the "American Dream" is a thing in the way past.  The little guy stands no chance starting anything up here unless you have a ton of cash for insurances, legal fees etc, etc.  Heck, I can't even afford my own health insurance right now.  I reall do appreciate everyones input and am thinking of other things etc. ;)

I'm so sorry D. People are just so litigation happy these days. I would hate to see someone give you a hard time. I would still call the small business folks in your area. Maybe they could tell you what you actually need to do to safeguard yourself, and maybe take it from there. They also have grants and assistance to help people in just your position. Lots of folks that volunteer for them have years and years of experience...it is a wealth of knowledge to draw from. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Perhaps  your dream isn't dead, just a little delayed.  :)

Whatever you plan on doing and creating it won't happen over night.  It takes alot of foot work and research to get things rolling.  Ya gotta start from the beginning and work forward.   afro.gif

i agree with the statements above D.  you SHOULD go for it!!!  it is certainly possible, but it might take some small savings to get ready for it.  It is a great idea that i really think would go over maybe slow at first but well in the long run!!!  i don't think you should give up at all, with your background you are the man for the job, you just need to protect yourself from the selfish idiots of the world.

i for one believe in you, and it sure seems like you have a forum full of people here who share my sentiments.

I don't think you should give up on it yet, do your homework on this, find out what you need to know, I think you'd be real good at it, plenty of businesses have started and been successful right in someone's kitchen/garage whatever. ;)
