I don't think I shared this before but once a week or so we will give the flock organic all natural(no sodium/butter) popcorn for a treat.  They just go bonkers with this stuff and is a hoot to watch! ;D  Every one of our flock eats this!  They love to eat it, chew it up, throw it and play with it! :D  If you have not tried this I really recommend it as it will entertain them and enrich their day!  Be prepared for a disaster of a mess though :P

I have those little corn cobs that I pop and hang in the cage. They have a freakin field day with it!

I use the corn cobs too, they are great and the corn pops up so little that they are just right for the budgies little beaks. They are great for hiding places too! Nothing like a popcorn covered beak  smitten.gif

So what is the secret to popping the corn on those cobbs, I usually burn it and then most of the popped corn falls off, so what am I doing wrong or do you all have the same problems?
I sometimes just give it to Zim unpopped he picks the corn off & makes a mess  :P

I put it in a paper bag and then use the popcorn setting on my microwave. I don't let it run as long as the setting time, once I hear the popping start to slow down I stop it. I end up with most of the popcorn popping the same way it does in the stuff we eat, seperate pieces. The cob usually has some pieces left onto it and then this mass of popcorn that is not uniformed pieces, it's just kinda there. I give morghan the cob with the popcorn stuck to it and the little guys the pieces.

I usually stick it on a plate and cover with a paper towel. It doesn't take long...I made the budgies one yesterday and I think it only took 30 seconds. It was their first time and once they got the idea it as not a predator, they had so much fun. Waldo spent hours filling in his toothbrush on all the goings on. He is so cute!

Thanks for the tips I will have to try it again some time soon, we usually just share regular popcorn  ;)

The one house I work at on Fridays the grey Beepers says "Popcorn" when I am in the kitchen then I feel bad to disappoint him when I show up with regulare ole food  :(
Gives me an idea I will take some with me this week for the birdies in my care.
