Why do Pirates carry Parrots?
There are no historical accounts to show that real pirates of the past carried parrots. However there are fictional accounts and many assume that this started from the popularity of the book ‘Treasure Island’ in 1881 by Robert Louis Stevenson. In the book, there is a pirate named Long-John Silver who kept a parrot for a pet.

cool links! :)

some useless knowledge: ;)
There may be no historical accounts that real pirates carried parrots, but back in those times, parrots and exotic birds were always sought out for pets because people were intrigued with them and used them as a novelty item to show of their wealth. (much like today ::) ) so pirates and sailors, when sailing to exotic lands would capture parrots and birds to give to their lady back home as a token of their love.
