Birds may sleep with one side of the brain asleep and the other awake, with sides of the brain takings turns sleeping.  The eye controlled by the sleeping hemisphere is closed, while the other hemisphere's eye is open, watching for threats.  This half - sleeping has only been observed in birds and aquatic mammals such as seals, whales and dolphins.

“My brother and sister birds, you should praise your Creator and always love him: He gave you feathers for clothes, wings to fly and all other things that you need. It is God who made you noble among all creatures, making your home in thin, pure air. Without sowing or reaping, you receive God’s guidance and protection.”
St. Francis of Assissi

you know? that is really fascinating, and makes perfect sense...I wonder if humans can do that...like mothers...how we sleep with a 'nightlight' on in the brain that wakes us if something is wrong, even if as we are coming to don't know what in the world woke us??
Or that whole 'half-asleep' thing where we can hear everything going on but appear asleep, and not in a paralyzed way...just relaxed but aware...that is KE-EWL!

The difference between kids and parrots is that it's funny when a parrot talks back.
