It is because the outside of the fruits has pesticides on it, ALL fruit should be washed/scrubbed whether it's organic or not. Just because a food is said to be organic doesn't mean it's pesticide free, it can have a natural pesticide on it that can cause harm to your birds health if ingested such as grapefruit seed extract.
