N.J. veterinarian admits neglect in parrot death

By The Star-Ledger Continuous News Desk
November 20, 2009, 11:12AM

HOWELL — A New Jersey veterinarian has pleaded guilty to failing to properly care for a parrot that was kept as an office pet and died when temperatures fell.

Mahmoud Hussein admitted in Municipal Court on Wednesday that he failed to provide adequate food and shelter to Tickles. The Conure parrot was kept in an unheated entryway of his veterinary office in Howell Township.

The bird was found dead one day in October when temperatures dipped into the 40s.

Monmouth County SPCA chief Victor "Buddy" Amato said parrots are tropical animals that can't handle that kind of cold.

An employee at the office said neither Hussein nor a second doctor also charged in the case wished to comment.

“My brother and sister birds, you should praise your Creator and always love him: He gave you feathers for clothes, wings to fly and all other things that you need. It is God who made you noble among all creatures, making your home in thin, pure air. Without sowing or reaping, you receive God’s guidance and protection.”

and he's a vet?  If he were my vet, I would change right away.   >:(

If he would let his own bird die of exposure, he probably wouldn't care about anything of mine either.  he might as well take down his shingle.  he is ruined in my book, and deservedly so! >:(

That is disgusting!  If he let a human die of neglect his license would be revoked-why not revoke his vet's license for this????  tickedoff.gif

The difference between kids and parrots is that it's funny when a parrot talks back.
