This is Gimpy..well his name will be changed soon but yeah hes a baby sun conure who has a bum leg. We dont know how gimpy he will be yet, ha may not be able to walk or perch, if he doesnt he will scoot on his belly. He is 22 days old right now so it will be a while before hes here, please keep him in your prayers! Oh he had surgery a few days ago too, his knee has improved slightly since then. Our hopes are for nim to walk and perch, but its touch and go yet. He has trouble building muscle because he cant move much.

These pics are from tonight, he was just feed thats why hes dirty

Yeah its sad but hes tough, he had to have the surgery asap if there was going to be any chance of him being able to move it at all. One of my friends on another forum is his breeder, and shes wonderful..most breeders would of had him put down but shes doing so much for him. She spent a ton on his surgery and does PT with him everyday, she has been fighting hard for him. Ill tell you more about his knee when I tlak to her tomorrow, I forget all the details.

Oh that poor sweet little baby, I just saw and article on sprawled legs and how to put a sock (child's) on the birds body and cut little holes out for the legs to help them stand, I wonder if this could be of any use to you down the road? Oh now I'm going to have to find it, I have been making a 3 ring binder with bird info and filing things..who knows where it is now, see I'm trying to get organized! I look for it, anyway good luck.

The difference between kids and parrots is that it's funny when a parrot talks back.

I would be interested in that Zimba..Im not sure it would make a difference with him but If one of my babies ever has a splay leg it may! See Gimpster's Knee is fused, too much bone I think it is on the knee and/or no joint. Ill find out for sure tomorrow again.

What a precious little thing!  He would look too cute in a sock!  These guys and other animals for that matter are so resilient only time will tell what they may be capable of!  "Gimpy" you are in my thoughts!!!

Oh yeah-when I read the name of this post I LMAO-I had been wondering how long it would take you before getting a conure.  I knew you couldn't stay away! ;D
Actually, Emily and I had bets going on what type of conure it would be.  No JK.

i believe it as that gimpy was not born with a hip joint.  i pretty sure that is it, and may even with out a knee joint on that one side(not sure about the knee joint thoguh.  so gimpy just cannot walk or really build muscles on that side.

Well thanks Dad :)

Nate, I think its the knee not the hip..I just remembered her commenting how she kept telling us hip but meant knee because they look similiar in babies, lol.
