My tiel is still up for adoption. She needs to go into a breeding situation as she is laying eggs like crazy. There is another post about her further down on this board. I have extenuating circumstances why I must find her a new home and I was hoping someone who cares would be able to take her into a breeding situation. She's a lovely bird that doesn't deserve this. She is free to a good home.

Have you tried decreasing her daylight time? I see a lot of people on various forums talking about a strict daylight schedule for chronic layers. Make her days shorter, like in the wintertime.
Some people have had success with those shots, but I understand that they are very expensive. :o
I hope you can find a resolution to this problem. :)

Yes she is covered in the dark at least 12 hours a day-sometimes more. She is in my computer room by herself. On vet's suggestion male nanday was moved lest his male presence triggered her off. That is one of the problemsThis is the warmest room in the house. Sinbad is a rescued nan 24 years old.I have had him 20 years. He is a chronic picker with follicle damage .I got him this way. He needs this warm room in the winter. There is no other place to put Carly other than a closet as I have cats. I appreciate your suggestions but believe me I have tried EVERYTHING I have ever heard of and invented some of my own theories. I have heard sometimes after raising some babies the egg laying returns to normal. This is what I was hoping for. I do not care to breed tiels.---Yogi

Offer plenty of calcium while she is laying, egg shells nuked for 1 minute and crushed up, or mineral block high in calcium...I would take her in a heart beat...but that would require shipping... And we have 8 male tiels here...no breeding allowed...
I truly wish I could help your little friend..

Sorry I dont know anyone in your area, have you looked for/contacted any breeders? Your vets office may know of someone that could adopt her.

I am putting scraped cuttlebone on everything. The eggs have good shells She also has liquid calcium once in a while. She is very tame but catching her to administer it to her is very traumatic so I put it on her fav foods.
I guess I will have to contact the vets but I was so hoping a real bird lover could take this beautiful bird. She's not only beautiful but a great pet when she isn't laying eggs.

Carly is in love with you, the way you are handling the bird maybe a issue.
Now, its hard to give advice without offending...happens all the time..
Our chronics here were so bad they were loosing the use of there legs...here's what we did to control the situation without luprin...first...we moved the girls far away from the males. Down in our basement, it cooler down there and this helped, lighting is less also down there. We removed any and all stimulation toys, ropes, anything that could be used as a form of stimulation, even if they could reach through the grate and shred up newspaper was addressed.... Our girls were all rescues, there background was faint...but...what we do know about all of our rescues is this...control the way you handle your birds, limit touch to head and neck.. Just as with a cat...if you stroke there entire body there rump will raise...same with birds, there's no need to stroke any bird the full length of there body...and by all means this is a norm, I see so many people doing so... One will end up with an over sexual active bird that either screams a lot, regurgitating, attitudes...you name it... Birds have a main objective...to find a mate and re-produce. You are Carly's mate... Our girls stop laying....once in a great while there would be a egg...not bad for 4 chronic egg layers in one cage...then we began taking in more male tiels and some where close enough for the girls to hear, and the eggs were everywhere...we re-homed the girls to some fine people that didn't have any birds....the eggs stopped just that fast... I surely wouldn't want Carly to become a breeding machine, no matter what there nature is, there's enough Cockatiels at shelters and rescue facilities the way it is...The Cockatiel is number two and the Parakeet is number one..."throw away"...birds...just the facts. If it were me, I would search for a home where Carly will be the only bird and the folks would have to know about birds and there needs and promise...NO BREEDING. Arty

Nope ---Been there ----Done that. Except the basement part. Do not pet the bird.Occaisionaly let her on my finger just to keep her tame for a moment. No toys that are stimulating at all.I watch for that stuff. Believe me I've done it all.

Well then, I am very impressed with your knowledge of birds, you shine. Our poor little Joey a female Tiel, she pro lapsed with every egg, Joey was our very first bird, seems like it was just the other day, 20 years ago now... There's 3 of us here on the forum that have mentioned shipping now, you will not find a better group of folks than right here, we all mean well and wish to help you as much as we can. Carly would more than likely have a harder time here with all the males we have, and we are rescue people here, so breeding is Taboo... I pray all works out for Carly and you!

Thanks for your remark I seemed to have some knowledge of birds .I try to keep up. I 've been around birds over 55 years and my husband raised pigeons for over 65.
Thanks for your offers but I really do not care to ship Carly. I much prefer to save her the stress of shipping (me too).
I'll keep trying.

I know you want to save her the stress of shipping. Maybe you could look at it this way. Weigh the stress her body is undergoing due to all the egg laying with what stress she may or may not have taking a flight. Many before her have taken flights and done just fine, but we all know the toll of chronic egg laying on their bodies can have dire consequences. A flight to get her into a situation where the egg laying can be stopped versus staying where she is and still laying...which is more the risk?
