first off thanks to chance for teaching me the ways of a rescue! second thanks to mar and d for the donation to help feed our fids. well yesterday i found there was a 2 year old cockatiel that needed to be rehomed i thought it would be a simple "dont have time story"-well i was wrong. when i got there to pick up this little guy the lady came rushing out the door pushed the tiel in the travel cage i brought along and said well i cant stand his mess anymore. well i was like ok you have had him for about 2 years and now you cant stand the mess? well in the process of her pushing him into the cage his wing got caught in the door and he almost broke it. she was like on we cant have him doing that now can we. well she had a cage that i said well how much would you want for it she said 200 i was like umm no sorry am not paying that much even if i had the money(btw the cage was brand new 4 years ago) then she said well we had other cockatiels before him and we rehomed them too cause they werent friendly. so i get home with my new fid and i go back online and look at craigslist and what do i see? his cage up for sale for 75 dollars or trade for an aquarium. basically she gave him up for that? sorry by that time i was angry! what are they going to do if the fish get too messy? ok then cockatiel number two. a disabled lady called me. she my profile on another site and i said in my profile we take in abused birds(wrote that long ago) she said well heres the deal. i would like a budgie and was wondering if you have any to rehome i said well we have one that my husband took in and she was ready for her new home. she said well i cant drive so could you bring her to me i said well yes because i really wanted to meet the lady in her home anyways.well i get to talking to her she said well her boyfriend had come home with a cockatiel and his wings are bad she said i cant care for him because i have one leg and cant chase him around. apparently her boyfriend wanted to save this bird. come to find out where he got it from is from somebody in my town that was taking free birds and trying to breed them and if they didnt breed he was selling them for higher prices. her boyfriend must have seen an ad somewhere. i have been trying to change this other man and have been to his place several times to educate him i thought i was getting somewhere but guess not. so i took the tiel home with me. they called him buddy but we plan to change his name real soon. he is so afraid of people cant fly and has never had fruits or veggies. so right away this morning i got out the broccoli and millet he didnt know what to do with it at first then he saw braxton my tiel going for it and bam he attacked the broccoli and now is addicted. ok enough said here i am going to post pictures now! please be gentle in your replies to this i did what i thought was best but need advice and opinions.

ok those are the one with the bad wings now here is the other one

I'm so glad you were able to give them a home! Especially that one from the rich woman. I can't believe she tried to sell you a cage for $200, just to post it on craigslist for $75 an hour later! Ugh, the people in this world...

But anyway, I hope they new tiels fit in with the rest of the flock! They're beautiful!

I'm sorry but I think I would have punched that lady in the head and then taken one of her arms and crushed it like she did to the poor fid!   tickedoff.gif...doesn't feel so good does it!  evil.gif
I can not tolerate those out there willing to swap pets for other pets or items!  She obviously does not have the mind frame of having the best interest for them and then trying to make a buck with the cage offering it to you at that price.  We had a large aquarium at one time...75 or 90 gallon....not the easiest thing to upkeep although D did all of it.
I am glad they are safe with you!  smitten.gif

the thing is mar she has 3 dogs as well. she said she got "rid" of one for barking a lot or something along those lines. i wasnt really listening to what she was saying i was just worried bout the fid. i dont know what kind of life either of them really had but i know that the lady that gave me the tiel with the bad wings had her heart in the right place looking for help. the other lady is way to selfish. now that i have taken in these wonderful fabies i understand a little of what chance deals with. when i went to get them i thought about how i was going to hold my self back from being mean to them, then i asked for inner strength. i also thought about giving them a better life and oddly enough about how each and every one of you would react on here. money is tight here but i have sold a couple more of my personal possesions to make sure i can feed the fabies that people neglect and dont want. i told my husband i would give up all my worldly possesions to keep my animals fed and cared for. he loves animals dont get me wrong but he doesnt connect the way i do. my mom really thinks it is my indian heritage coming out.my mom got here from work yesterday and walked in and right away ok where are the new babies! she was against me having more then a couple birds now she is talking to them taking them out to play feeding them treats and so yeah she was sucked in by my fids!

Some people just don't get it and never will.  There is still much to learn in the general pet keeping population on the proper ways to keep and handle parrots/birds and all the behaviors that come with them.  You did good this day and you should feel good about that.  We went to buy a cage from a lady a while back and saw two Ring necks in a cage twice as small as the one my single Parrotlet is in!  It had no perches, one swing and only two toys.  I asked her about them and she said she was selling them.  She said all her Macaws were intimidating them etc.  She was a nice lady but did not understand that they could not possibly get comfortable and open up in their current living situations.  This ate at me for a week and we went back to get them.  I thought they had been through enough and knew we could provide them with a much better life.  It is up to people like everyone here to pass on what we know to who may listen.  Great job Mi Amore afro.gif

thanks for all the words of thanks. my husband came up with the idea of renaming "buddy" he wants to call him broken wing! now how strange is that he has never even been on this site so i kind of laughed a little when he said what he was going to name him! i mean it is a name that at this time fits him but we already have a broken wing here. ok so now i need names for these fellas.
