Just a curiosity question...... As most of you know our Jane had plucked herself for her nesting materials. She didn't really want anything much else. Do you think if I put in a bunch of fluffy down feathers from the flock she would use them for nesting materials? ???

How about down feathers from NOT our flock? You keep taking me feathers and Not good! That is a good idea though! Maybe we can get down feathers from somewhere as Jane is still pluckin hardcore no matter what we do. Any suggestions anyone?

she will not like feathers from other birds as it has their scent on them.use down feathers from a pillow or even cotton balls.

A. I do the floor and cage cleaning tickedoff.gif B. There are 100"s of feathers from under the keets cages that get thrown out. idiot2.gif C. So if you want to save them all then you are going to have to pick them up and put them into their bag. crazy2.gif
We have tried cotton balls and she still doesn't want anything to do with them. I think I read in BC a while back that the PF Lovies like bamboo leaves for their nests. I could buy one of those little bamboo plants..?

It couldn't hurt to try bamboo leaves, but are they talking of the ones found on the bamboo that grows in China versus the kind they sell in stores? They are a different species of bamboo I believe. Down feathers from a pillow might work, they are suspose to be sterilized before being put in. Have you tried paper strips and hay yet? Does she stuff materials in her tail like some female LB's do?

The bottom of the cage (no grate) is lined in paper which is now all shredded. Yes she stuffs her tail (funniest thing to see) but it seems like she doesn't make it to the nest area with it. I will see if we have an old down pillow upstairs.

I've seen video if Lovies putting things in their tails, it is quite cute and comical :) I hope the down works, her little neck must be getting sore :( I know it's normal for them to pluck when in breeding mode, but still it must hurt. Have you tried limiting the daylight she gets to see if that makes a difference?
