Since I am still not well enough to make my Mush/Mash meal I sought a smaller less time consuming recipe.  Still took me 1 1/2 hours though, but have enough to last a while. I mashed Sweet Potatoes, Bananas and Hard Boiled eggs with the shells.  i then flavored it with fresh Coconut juice.  I bought a 10 grain cereal mix and along with two types of pastas cooked them up.  I chopped everything else up and added canned beans.  Everything was then mixed together, served and stored in the freezer.

What kind of beans did you add? When I look at the canned beans, I find them all very high in sodium or potassium. Too much sodium is a no no, and because potassium can effect heart rhythms, I am very leery of this.  A high human allowance of K+ (potassium) would seem to be potentially harmful to the fids cardiac status. Thoughts?

The beans are organic cannelini(sp) "white kidney" beans.  No Na and I think 250 mg K+ which  said 7% of the RDA.  It's one can of beans to this huge batch of mush.  The RDA for human K+ consumption is 3500 mg.  The healthy human that is, if they were in renal failure then it would be a concern.

The canned beans were No sodium.  Even if they had sodium you just rinse them in a strainer.  They are not that high in Potassium and have not heard of Potassium being a problem in Parrots?  Of course, too much of anything is harmful for our fids.  Moderation is a must with everything AddEmoticons04239  Legumes are a great food for Parrots and will recommend them fully

Not a brand.  White Kidney beans.  There are so many beans/legumes that are great.  Aduki from what I have gathered is the most nutritious afro.gif

The way they are all inhaling this mash, I want to try lots of different stuff next time. I keep thinking of the guy I got Jade from telling me,"All she eats is seed. Maybe a bite of apple every few weeks. She hates all fresh fruits and vegetables." You should see my B Girl now. If I don't bring her breakfast immediately in the morning, she actually throws a temper tantrum.  ;D

I believe the brand is Eden Organics, cannellini beans aka white kidney beans (smaller than regular red kidney beans)
I must say, this mixture had to be one of the favs of the flock.  Most of the bowls were almost empty!

Well between you guys and the people on FB taking about this mash & chop recipes I really have to try some, I just haven’t because with one bird it didn’t seem to make sense but I may call one of my clients that has 3 birds & ask her if she want to make a batch & we can split it, I think that is a very good idea!
Thanks for the info  AddEmoticons04239

Zimba, I can't tell you how much my fids are lovin their mash. Mine is a little different from D's. I made a huge batch and froze it in daily servings. You could keep a lot on hand and not worry. It will keep a good long time. They are just inhaling this stuff. Everybody from the finches on up. Even they love it. so Funny, from tiny on up, a total hit with all. Even the dogs are lovin the cleanup!  afro.gif

Thats what I do.  Portion in ziplocks and freeze it.  I give this every other night and lasts a month for our whole gang.  There are many ways you can make it etc ;)

Yup, thats what I do too D. One quart freezer bags, and I put a one days supply for all in each bag. I giggle...my son will open the freezer, dig through the birdie muffins, parrot bread, mash, and pasta veggie rice stuff, say "nothin but bird food" and close the door.  2funny.gif

I do a batch and put it in a ice cube tray, freeze it and then pop em out  into a ziploc and keep it in the freezer.  This makes it easy for 1 bird too.  That is their daily portion.
