Okay guys, so, as I've told Em over the phone, Peanut and Cooper are mating. Five days ago, I got them a nest box, and Peanut and Cooper are making a nest. Well, they've mated like 3 or 4 times since I've gotten the box, which means (hopefully) 'Nut might lay eggs soon. So I have MANY questions.

Should I give 'Nut a certain type of food/supplement before she lays eggs, to help with the process?

Is it ok to still give them both attention? Or should I leave them be?

I have more questions, I just can't think of them right now. I will kep in touch whenever possible.

Thanks in advance for any extra advise!

Increase the calcium, give a hard boiled egg with the shell, cuttle bone.  Tarzan and Jane are not hand tamed so we let them be.  Just watch for their body language and such.  Make sure momma is eating good!
Good luck gramma to be!

ok guess I need to be the voice of reason here and ask Why are you breeding ? don't take offense to this but I have to ask why when there are thousands of unwanted birds sitting in shelters.
do you plan on keeping all the babies?

Got to go with Chance on this one. I would suggest that if you want more birds to sterilize the eggs as soon as they are laid, put them back in the nest and go to the nearest rescue and pick you out a nice unwanted bird.

Bilbo Im just saying this when my friend bred her birds she had issues getting rid of her parrots that were bred.  That all i got to say bout that.

Like stated give them extra calcuim.  My friend gave her birds attention specially the male like normal the female wasnt/still inst as hand tamed and just doenst enjoy attention.  But dont bother them when they are on the eggss which is obvious

Well I for one hope you get some cute baby tiels!  ;D Give her boiled egg (with the shell) for calcium, and stay clear when she has eggs! Like you said over the phone, she'll be really aggressive! But hopefully once the eggs hatch she won't be as bad.
Good luck!  :)

I'm curious as to why you would encourage breeding with a box knowing that there would be consenquences to that action without fully being knowledgeable in breeding? It's one thing if they decide to breed on their own with no box or encouragement, but to set them up for it without out having all the knowledge needed is baffling to me. I guess I'm just trying to better understand why questions weren't asked first. Was it because you thought they would make cute babies? Was it for profit? Was it to satisfy your urge maternally so to speak? Was it because you know someone who breeds and thought it would be fun? Do you think if you were better educated before hand you would have still provided a box? Please don't take this as a personal attack, I'm just going with the educational aspect and what if anything would prevent over breeding and uneducated breeding that could lessen the overall numbers of birds that become unwanted in this world.

Okay please dont take what i said in the first post as like being mean or trying to discourage you its just that I was stating a fact so you could know she had issues selling them.

I do wish you 100% luck im just wondering since i forgot has peanut been able to fly?  cause i heard if they fly less chances for egg blinding.

Heres a question on my part to everyone if birds breed once and lay eggs are female more likely to lay eggs after that point?  I know Miah i believe hasnt but im just curious.

Oh baby teils!  Good luck with them.  And as said extra calcium is a must.  Make sure she eats while sitting on those eggs.

Please don't criticize Britt.  :( We're all here on this forum to help each other out, not discourage them. When Chance had baby conures, nobody criticized her about that, so please be polite to Britt too.

We all know you take VERY good care of your birds, so I don't think there's any harm in letting them breed as long as you know they're healthy, which I know they are. :)

I'm not criticizing her, I know it may seem that way at first glance, but I'm just trying to better understand and learn why it is people would choose to breed before knowing about what fully goes into it. You're right this is a place for people to learn and that is just what I am trying to do in this case. I did not say she was wrong or shouldn't be breeding, I only asked why. She can choose to do what she wants, as we all can, but I think our choices can benefit from complete knowledge of things versus partial. I wonder just how many people out there who have chosen to breed for whatever reason would have not bred if they had all the information necessary in the begining? It is only through education and knowledge that our choices and the fate of all the worlds birds can become more of a sucess rather than regrets.

Hey Guys and gals. No, I'm not taking ANY of this the wrong way. You guys are concerned about the health and safety of the birds, and I understand that. I just wanted to state that BEFORE I got the box, Peanut was already looking for a nesting place throughout the house, and was becoming severely depressed when I wouldn't let her. Yes, it might've not been the best thing, but I couldn't stand letting her be depressed like that. She is the closest to me after all, and my baby girl. And I will admit, I am totally excited, but nervous too. I did look into breeding tiels beforehand; reading books, internet, calling my vet, etc. I am still studying it through and through, and I m ade a call to Rocky Mountain Society of Aviculture, to see if they will help me find a "mentor", so I can call them with questions I might have, and if it comes to it, if they can re-home the baby tiels.

So, update... 'Nut has laid 2 eggs so far, and another one due tonight. I do plan on re-homing the babies, once they are weaned, which I know will be hard...but my uncle says no more birds. Coopz and Nut are both being very good parents...sitting on the eggs, protecting them, etc. But they still love their scritches! LOL.

Okay, so PLENTY of calcium, hard boiled egg with the shell, got it. My vet also mentioned flavorless PediaSure for the electrolites. What i am currently doing is when I feed them veggies, I scrape cuttlebone into Nut's veggies.

I do want to apologize to anyone whom I have offended, and I didn't mean it. Trust me, I appreciate everyone's concern for my beloved birds. It gets me thinking...in a good way, so thanks. Em, it's ok...they're not bashing me, they are just concerned. But thanks for standing up for me! Love ya!!

Ok, guys, I gotta get back home...I wanna be there for Peanut. I am not bothering her, just watching to make sure she is ok. Thanks again...to EVERYONE!  :) :)
