well, yesterday evening I let the dog out, and I saw two birds on the power line, one was a dove, the other...I squint...Could it be? Thanks to all the pictures on here, I can tell what a parrot looks like from a pretty good distance away...is it sad that I looked up and recognized...a quaker butt!  I said 'this is sad, I can tell you are a quaker by the shape of your little body".  I go under the line and it follows me with its eyes, and I say 'step down' it looks at me like 'how did you KNOW THAT?!" It wouldn't come down though, even though I brought out the millet.  It was turquoise.  It flew away making a distinct quaker sound, landing on a line two yards over, then a flock of black birds landed all around it, it knew better and took off again..out of sight.  someone somewhere lost their birdie..I wish i could have helped.

I will be on the lookout for it again, if I can catch it I will call the ASPCA; but not before I post the legband on parrot alert, is there anything else I can do?

Post this on as many places as you can.  If you can also the area that you saw him posted here and wherever else you post him.  Make up a flyer and post at your local pet stores etc.  Heck, go to my main site link here for more..  http://www.buffaloparrot.com/lostfound.htm

Oh man! I am saddened to hear that.  Hopefully he will come to you.  Did he have a band?  Not that ya have an eagle eye or anything, but if ya recognized a qp Butt, well I figure maybe...
Look in the newspaper too.  I just saw an ad today for a lost green parrot in Fitchburg, one town away from me.

it was sunset, so the light was very bright on the horizon and I could not tell if it had a leg band I tried so hard to squint and see, the legs looked very pink in the sunset light. I thought I saw a band but since I can't be sure I don't want to say I did.  I have never seen a turquoise quaker before, just the green ones.  It is truly turquoise and so pretty! I joined and searched the lost parrots on Parrot911 and saw no missing birds for my state; I will search surrounding states too, it was in really good shape, flying strong and may have flown from far, far away.

The one thing I am afraid of: I have seen an add in the paper for a month or so for a turquoise parrot for sale, I hope they didn't get tired of waiting and just let it go... :(

Do you have a spare cage that you can set outside with food & water in it? Someplace safe and someplace that you can keep on eye on it? If it was some ones pet it may come to the cage because it will be hungry...it's a long shot but better then nothing.

We have wild Quakers/Monk parakeets (as they call them here)around here.

Seeing the Quake is a mutation I think it is not wild.  I would do what Zimba suggested and leave all kinds of Parrot treats around.  I think this bird escaped or was let go.  Keep us updated if you see him again.

Along with leaving a cage with food, water etc.  I have heard to leave a porch light on.  Wish I could help.

Yes D i know it has to be a domesticated bird.  I was just thinking that if in fact it does have a band the better the chance of him getting home.  Maybe it just makes me feel better.  Poor guy, I hope that is not the case that he was set free.

I leave a porch light on at night all the time for security so that is not a problem, I have an extra little cage, I will keep a lookout for it.  We have a lot of bird lovers on my street, they all feed them extra bread and seeds, and there is a cockatoo 2 doors down that is at least 15-20. you can hear it with closed windows, maybe it will draw the bird back here. I agree I think it is indeed a pet, the turquoise color is what convinced me of that.  I will do what I can for the little guy if I see him/her again.  This area is heavily developed and there are lots of pigeons and brown mourning doves around.  I am encouraged that the bird looked in really good shape, and I hope that it will be ok.

I have a two year old female Quaker Parrot, rare blue color, and can no longer care for her due to traveling. If anyone would like to give this bird a good home I will give her away free of charge with cage and food. She is good tempered and never nips hard. She has been well cared for and would make a great pet for anyone with a little time to spare.
