So sorry about the breakup.  :-[ But I bet this macaw has boosted your spirits! I wish I was handed a free macaw just like that!

So, here are our possible options (or ideas that were brought up already) about what kind of macaw he could be:
Military
Severe
Hahns
Illigers
yellow collared
red bellied
noble

And I'm going to use the elimination method and see what's left.  :P

Can't be a military because he's too small, doesn't have the black face feathers, and doesn't have the red "poof" of feathers right above the beak (look at Ollie in my siggie).
Can't be a severe because he doesn't have the black eye feathers and doesn't have red on the bends of the wings.
Can't be a hahns because his face patch is too big.
Can't be a yellow collared because... well, he doesn't have the yellow collar. lol.
Can't be a red bellied because his belly is green.
Can't be a noble because his face patch is too big, and he doesn't have red on the bends of his wings.

Which leaves us with.... An Illiger's macaw!!! I'm 99.9% sure of it!  ;D
They don't call me "macawlover" for no reason!  :D

After some research I agree!  I think this is a female Illiger's macaw ;)

I'm pretty sure it's not a hahns, because they have more of a "conure" look to them, and their face patches aren't as large as Huey's. Hahns also have red on their wings.
It's possible that the red spot (although I've only seen a few pictures of illiger's macaws who have those) faded away from a bad diet.

well in teh brief time he was out today i did notice a small (in fact very small) tuft of red feathers right above his nares.  I too disagree on the hahns as they are the only mini macaw i HAVE ever dealt with (3 different ones in fact) and this one is atleast 1.5-2x larger... WAYYYYY bigger... like saying a nanday is a black cap if you get my size analogy.  and the lack of black facial feathers again makes me really think he isn't a severe's despite bc seemly defaulting to that.

and yeah, it just so happens that the copy of bt you are referencing is the one in stores right now so all day yesterday i was comparing.  I guess we shall see how a better diet helps him (or her) out.  I'm gonna call the guy tomorrow and see if i can get the cage.

any more knowledge or thoughts to impart would be appreciated!  i am stumped for sure!  SO far i am leaning with ML2 though!

Could it be possible that this is a cross between the two?  Hmm, to weird.

I think I was right.  I am almost positive this is a hybrid Illiger's Macaw AKA Blue-winged Macaw/Hahn's Macaw hybrid.  I have a very reliable identification book and the colors do not match any mini Macaw, but they are the only two I see combined that it could be.  Also the size would make sense.  Something to ponder and maybe look into more ;)

okay now that i actually have some real time i am nearly certain it is a blue-winged/illiger's.  Females do notable have less red... and check out this pic... i give him one or two molts in my care and (s)he will develop the light red belly.  I am nearly positive she is a she too... from the seeminly reliable pics males have LOTS of red but females are more muted.  Also another thing i noticed right away and didn't mention is the yellowish color to her facial patch which is apparently normal in blue wings and red belly macaws only.  gosh i am getting so excited!!!!

the down side is the more reading i do the more depressing it is.... apparently they are getting very rare in the wild and apparently the last male spix macaw hooked up wiht a illigers as his mate now... sad stuff. :(

okay... look at this page teh bottom bird looks alot like huey to me... if so we may need to change huey's name after all (which i wouldn't mind as i don't much care for it as it is :) )

Yep, looks just like him/her! I didn't know that females had less red than males, but it makes sense!

she is doing pretty good, i took some pics of her in her small cage for now... i called the man yesterday and i can pick her real cage up probably next week.  Its a small cage for now... but its better than nothin'!

here's a few more pics of her :)  She is getting comfy... but i'm a bit scared of her beak and not sure how to work on that yet...  i mean, if i have her out that's fine, but she can (hasn't yet) fly and if she were needed to be put away how do i do it quickly if she doesn't want to step up?  Little birds i understand and read well... bigger birds make me nervous...  i think i just need a good chomp to get me under control... LOL! :)

look at that sweet face:

What a beauty!  Looks like she is settling in fine and getting comfy!  How did that guy actually hear about you????  Good thing he did and Huey is in a loving and safe home!
