BrokenWing Chronicles
Baby Robin

Look who enters Rehab.

Its been windy here the last few days.
2 young lady's from the house down the street came knockin at the door.

"We have seen you walking with your bird'...says one little girl.

"We found this little bird, I think it was hit by the lawn mower", the other little girl said.

My wife Rose Ann said, "We'll bring him-her inside and lets have a look".

Rose Ann looked the little one over well and found no injuries.

"Well, do you want us to care for this little bird or do you want me to show you how?", says Rose.

"I am a little attached to it", says one little girl.

Soooo, both girls were shown how to feed the little one.

Arty wakes up...Rose tells Arty what has happened, "Momma", I said, "That little Robin will not do so well on Kaytee Exact, the little bird is not a seed eater".

2 little girls show up the next day and bring the little bird, "we are going away for the weekend, can you take care of this little bird?"...they ask..

Arty comes home from work....next morning....digs up some worms and heads for the bait shop..hehehehehehe.

Baby Robins can be fed Kaytee Exact Baby Bird Formula, but the little one will not get the proper nutrients for growth..

The little one is being fed every 3 hrs, no feedings over night.

Meal Worms.
Small Earth worms.

It is also important to re-hydrate, we use a pinch of sugar and a pinch of salt mixed in a cup of cool water and offer some with each feeding...

BrokenWing.

Is he eating on his own? Or are you hand feeding. How old do you estimate he is? baby robins are just so cute.

Well Rockin is doing just fine, he/she eats like a pig...
We have a heating blanket under the cage to keep him/her warm...
The Dad told the 2 young girls 13-15 that soon the bird will be flying...but soon isn't the proper word...
I am guessing this little one to be around 5 weeks old now....a few weeks to go yet...
Boarder line human touch....there must be some touch as the mother would offer.
Hopefully next week I will be able to place the worms in the bottom of the carrier and he/she will eat on there own but for now...its hand feeding time.
The little one will also have to be taught how to forage...
I will cut a little piece of sod off our lawn, put it in a cage and place some worms on the grass....
3 Maybe 4 weeks til release...

Thank you all for your replies....

P.S.
One out of Ten will stop to help a animal in need...One
I rescue animals, I do my best to protect them...this is what I do....
The true hero's are the 2 young lady's that reached out to help this little one....
They shine so brightly within this rescuers eye's....

Rockin is doing great, gets a little more feisty each day, he/she is perching now and wants to be free...
What a little pig...eats and eats...
The soil here is very sandy, so we have to buy the meal worms and earth worms...hehehehe
Up to $17.00 so far...Rose Ann says...grow up and fly soon...LOL
Received 2 calls for Pigeon Rescue...seems the boys are racing there birds again...that time of year...
Have to pick up 2 tomorrow...
