Rockin just looks so wonderful!  What else/other things will you have to do to help get him ready to be in the wild...so to say?

Rose and I take turns at everything, I get the morning feedings, Rose takes the afternoon and night time feedings.

All we can do is help Rockin to survive.

We can teach him her to forage, but for that to actually happen...will be up to Rockin...

Baby Robins leave there nest days before they actually fledge, both parents remain very close by there young, encourage the little one to hide in bushes and other places, they protect there little one the best they can when it comes to predators...

While the little one is grounded, they will teach him/her how to find food, the female will continue to feed her little one but only for a few more days after being grounded, within 3 days time, the little one will take flight and will be on his/her own.

The parents will not leave there young until the baby takes flight, then they will hang around for a few more days...

Then survival kicks in.

There's very little Rose and I can do other than assure he/she lives the life given to him/her while under our care, we can teach him/her how to forage but the real survival will have to be on Rockins behave...

Then the day of Bitter Sweet.....the time to say goodbye...

I love that picture of him with his mouth wide open! It'll be hard to let him go.  :-\ But he's a wild bird, and hopefully he'll fly back to the house to visit!

All birds are wild, one can never take that away from them.
A Pigeon Fancier once said "A Hand fed and raised Pigeon will never survive on his/her own in the wild".
I said "really", "then why are there thousands of lost racing Pigeons thriving in the wild...(forever lost trying to find there home) ??
If the "wild bird", "Hand fed and raised" theory was correct, then there would be no need for rehabers and or rescue people as all those that get help would perish just as soon as they were released.
There are thousands of Parrots living in the wild here in the USA, one can never take the WILD away from them, they do adapt, they do thrive.
They fly free....as they were intended to be....
Now I may not be correct about the numbers...it could actually be in the millions, but what I do know is this, we might cage them and take there freedom away....but we can never...never take there ability to survive and be wild....to be FREE, away from them...
Rose and I will assure Rockin survives under our care, we will provide all the tools we "as humans", can offer to help Rockin endure the wild, the survival part, is up to Rockin....
Rockin was given a larger cage today, now he/she jumps up in the door way to get fed, we are limiting human touch, this week sometime I will cut some sod off our lawn and place in the bottom of the cage.
Sometime next week, the hand feeding will stop, Rockin will have to find his/her meal in the grass to survive....this will be the feedings.
We are checking his/her ability to fly, he/she tries hard, but no flight as of yet...
One week after good stable flying...Rockin will be returned unto Mothers Care...as all birds should be...

BrokenWing

P.S.
We sit Rockin and the cage outside each day for awhile, There is a few adult Robins that near when Rockin is outside, they could be the Parents...maybe not.
Rockin will join up with his kind when released, he will be shown how to forage, how to eat by those of his kind.

Knowing you BW, I wouldn't be surprized if you dressed in a big robin costume so rockin feels more comfortable eating from you.

Rockin is doing awesome, so far over $30.00 in worms..hehehehehe
If it would ever rain here...I might find some worms outside...LOL
I can no longer feel right by keeping Rockin in the basement...so he/she has been moved up on the dinning room table in front of the window...
Eating and drinking very well...trying to fly....am falling in love...AGAIN...tears will fall come release day...
AGAIN......never get used to that part of rehab....
Pictures coming soon...
