Those are great ideas!  And I will always be willing to donate items for auctions or raffles or getting things for the garage sale like last year.

I was thinking about SCBR too and I was also thinking of a walk, but I didn't know how to go about it because I know not alot of us live close by.  I would SO drive to NY to walk.
Hubby made calanders for his Jeep Club pals and I am sure he could show me how (our compy should be running by then!) I would be glad to  help out making those for ya.
I had also thought about the local petstores in your area.  I know Petco and PetSmart here do a shelter once a quarter.  They ask for donations or a "round up".  I know the cat shelter and the dog shelter in the area make out pretty good.
If we did a raffle we could contact Zupreem, Harrison's Kaytee, etc and ask for donations to make a food basket and a toy basket or a little of each basket to raffle off.

Did you ever do an open house type thing ? We do them at the Ladies home and send invites and open it to the public. We have made some good contacts and done a lot of networking too.
Ditty, those are great ideas. I was thinking of having a yard sale and posting a sign "all proceeds go to SCBR"
I am almost done with my first crocheted fid, not bad for not crocheting in 15 years. I would make some and send them up to chance to sell, or put in my sale. My problem is we moved in July and threw so much stuff away, I don't have a lot to put out.

Great ideas everyone  :) I so wish I lived closer  :( I know I am very far away and pretty limited as far as hands on things go however anyway that I can help I'm more than happy to do it. I can write my butt off, make hand made bird toys for raffles and such, quilts : if I can get a bird related quilt pattern I think that would raffle off quite nicely. People go nuts for handmade quilts...I think they have photo fabric now too, I could do one that showcases birds in SCBR.
Thus far the ball is rolling on assistance from Petco. Just waiting to see if SCBR gets approval and then they will make a product donation if approved.
So let me know what I can do from here that will help local events and such, and of course I'll still be emailing my butt off trying to raise awareness for SCBR.

There are some really great idea's here, now the key is to actually do them, We need to make this shelter be known, we need to climb our way to the top, I think with all of us here working on things together we can do this !

another idea I have is a benefit concert .
