Ok lets  see where do I start, well I grew up in Rochester,NY I have a brother Dave , Growing up I visited my Grandparents every weekend, My Grandpa had a deep love for wild birds, so I would sit with him and he would pull out all his bird books, and show me all the different birds, at 7 yrs old I got my first bird, it was a parakeet named Charlie,he was the cutest little green bird, when he passed away it was 9pm at night, and I made my dad drive to my Grandparents house 40 minutes away just to bury Charlie. My parents divorced when I was 13, My mom moved away to Florida, and I lived with my dad, Dad and I did not get along,He was a guy who believed girls could not do anything, so him and my brother were always off hunting etc... together, while I sat home,I used my time wisely though,I was always researching different animals. By 15 I could not take being home with my dad anymore ,so I dropped out of school and moved in with a boyfriend who was 6 yrs older  then me. At 17 I married Brian, Brian's  family was horrible they were all alcoholics and drug addicts, I soon found out so was Brian,he was heavy into the drugs and drinking, and he became very abusive ,I spent a year of being abused, had him arrested a few times for pulling a gun on me, and he would just get out and come right back and stupid me always took him back,I was to afraid to leave, well then I met this guy while at work and he opened my eyes that I deserved so much better,on my first year anniversary with Brian we went to the park with his family, now Brian did not get me anything for our anniversary, so there was a lady giving away kittens, so I got myself a gift, we left the park and arriving home Brian tells me I need to drive his parents home, I was pissed they were all drunk, and I told him to take his own parents home, that did not go over very well, he got mad and kicked the box I was carrying the kitten in, kitten fell out ,and I had to chase him, Brian left and as I turned around there was that guy I had been talking to at my job, He was there at the right time, I left with him never to go back to Brian again,I moved in with this guy he was my savior, and I feel in love with him, and yep I married him, we have two beautiful children together, and have been together now 18 yrs.
I started a job at Petco, I use to get so upset at the animal care there, well lack of it,So I started bringing things home that they were letting sit in a back room to die, I was bringing birds home every week, I would get them healthy again and then find them homes, I finally got fed up with it I threw coffee at the manager and walked out, from that day on I started rescuing birds,I turned my basement into a bird room, then before I knew it all the rooms were bird rooms  :o
My Grandfather had fallen and broke his hip, it was down hill from there, Sadly he passed away he was 94 , I then decided I had to open a shelter in memory of him, He passed in Sept, I got the shelter in October,This was my dream come true a actual shelter to help all these birds,so In January of 2007 I opened my doors to the public, we had a good year, lots of great adoptions, and man we grew fast, and we made lots of wonderful friends along the way some have become a rock for me,We have now been open over 2 yrs, and we help as many as we can, and some other not so feathered things along the way  ;D The shelter is my life the birds are my life, I was put on earth to be a rescuer, and will not give up, as many of you know I was diagnosed with bird keepers lung about a year ago,so I have some pretty crappy days, were I can't breath and just don't feel well, and have lost 60 lbs in a very short period of a few months, but I wont walk away, this is the hardest part of being a rescuer, you can't walk away no matter how many times you try, a few people here can tell you I have said im closing more then once, then I can't do it, don't get me wrong I love what I do but the heart ache that comes with it, is so hard to deal with at times, you spend many days crying for the abused, neglected and un-wanted and there isn't a damn thing you can do to stop it.but one thing that keeps me going is all of your support, and the support of my husband , you all play a big part in what I do, you have become my friends and lift me up when I need it, and I can't thank all of you enough for that, and Kim you have become my rock I can always turn to you , thank you ;)
so there ya have it a bit about me, ok more then a bit, but I hope this shares more of who I am for you all !

Oh Chance,
I am glad that you shared all that with us. I am glad your life turned out better than it started out, and god bless your hubby. Sounds like a great guy.
You girl are a rock. I said before, you are like the eveready bunny, you just keep going and going and going.
You know, some people think you need to do one great big hugh thing in life for it to have meaning. I like your way better...a little good here, a little love there, a little feathered face saved from a life of hell over here, and when you add it all up, you have a mountain of love and good deeds in front of you.
Sincere congratulations....you deserve this and so much more...(((HUG)))
