That is what it is called when you preen your bird right? SHe LET ME DO THAT TODAY!  She has so many feathers coming in all sheathed and uncomfy-looking.  she layed her head on my finger when I rubbed her face, then turned her head so I could reach the rest of it little by little.  I was singing in a lullaby voice and gently moving her feathers and she settled further and further doen onto my hand (cupped against chest) and almost fell asleep!!  I started to touch her new feathers and she didn't mind, then I would rub/roll them between the middle finger nail and pad of my thumb and they started to break apart.  she still had the 'oooooooh' look on her face so I continued.  she even let me scratch RIGHT against her cere and beak.  I got most of the feathers loose, she wasall fluffed up and mellow - like a person looks after a massage.   I am thinking we have acheived a new level here, and was doing all I could not to cheer and carry on because I was so happy....I was like zennnnnnnn...ommmmmmmmmmm...so she would pick up on the mellow energy.  did I do it right? is there a 'technique' you do (if you do) so it is more effective/comfortable/enjoyable for the birdie?)

AWWWWWW That's so cute!!! Congrats!!! Yep, sounds like you're doing it the right way! I ususally use a nail to help break them, but may you don't need that for the smaller birds. That must be so exciting!!

Want some? All you have to do is grow feathers!
Jade and Bud are both molting. I'm gonna try this bird message thing.
Its so nice when they just relax all the way.  :)

I tried this with Jade today - got nipped - don't touch my pinnies!    >:(
I'll try Bud later. Jade still has some hand, finger issues from her first
house she lived in- I still refuse to call it a home, wasn't even close.  :(

I tried again today. Buddy is too busy. Always moving. But Jadie was in heaven. Once I got started, she just kept closing her eyes and purring. I got a ton of the sheaths off her pins. Her neck was covered. I think she figured out, hey, this is nice. What was cute, she returned the favor. She usually preens me by pulling on my hair at the ends. When I was done, she preened the crap outta the whole side of my head, right down to the scalp. A totally new way for her to do it. It felt great. Now I know why birds love it so much! :)

She really gave me quite a going over. Like a deep scalp thing. She is a awesome little bird masseuse. Now if I could teach her to do a nice claw massage...............hmmmmm.... :D

Sounds like she has her technique down pat  :) Morghan doesn't get down to the scalp I think it's a combination of her beak size and that my hair is so long. She usually just preens the ends or the hair just above my ear. I guess it's her version of whispering in my ear  ;D

I really have created a monster. Every time I open Jadies cage, she runs over , bends her head down, and closes her eyes. She is like, come on lady, I'm ready. Its so cute. Especially from a fid  I was told I would never be able to lay a finger on as she was so vicious!
