the incompetence just keeps on comin'! I would have been livid! Time for a new place to board! write it all down so you have a piece of paper with your greivances to hand the vet, and keep a copy. that way it is documented.  can you imagine if someone who is less honest took the 'extra' bird home? And then the rightful owner came to claim it and it was nowhere? I can't imagine more of a royal mess-up!

I stopped by the vets office today and asked to speak to whoever was in charge because I was very unhappy with the care my birds received while boarding. The none to fresh receptionist (she looked like she was in bad need of a shower...ewww) told me I needed to speak to the business manager and she was not in. She told me she would have her call me tomorrow, so I'll be waiting for a phone call from her. If I don't hear from her I'll be calling and asking for her until I finally speak to her. I've gone over what I am going to say in my head so many times, I hope it all comes out right when I do get the chance to voice my complaints.

I can't wait to see what the manager says! Good job at rehearsing what you want to say, as it will make the conversation go much smoother. Keep us updated!

after that, you might want to still speak to the vet, they like to know what is going on their office.  It reflects badly on them and they don't want to have unhappy people in their practice-or patients that leave.  good luck, let us know you it goes...

I spoke to the business manager today. I wasn't totally clear headed as she called about a half hour after I had a tooth extracted. I told her first that the staff tried to send me home with a bird that was not mine. She apparently misunderstood and thought they only brought out the other tiel to me. Once I told her that they brought my birds plus one extra after the bill was paid she said she was very embarassed. I'd be embarassed to if my staff did that! She couldn't give me an explination for why it happened nor could she give me a good explination for why there was so much millet gone, a tumbler that I use as a scoop for their food that was missing and that the other bird seemed to be getting fed food that was meant for my birds. Her only reply over and over again was that the staff takes care of feeding and cleaning first thing and all things come later, that they don't always pay attention to what goes with who as they are more concerned with getting them fed and cleaned. I told her that belongings and food should always stay with the pet they came in with. That I had worked as a tech for years and I always made sure everything stayed together. I also said if they are not paying attention they could very well feed something to a bird or other pet that could cause problems for them. She really had nothing to say at that point except that she would talk to them and see about getting them to be more diligent in that aspect. If you ask me they need to be fired if they can't even keep track of what goes with who and which animals are owned by each client. In the end I was offered 10% off the next service. Though at this point I'm in the market for a new office, I will certainly never board there again!
I'm not exactly happy with the outcome or the explinations, if only she had called before I got my tooth pulled, I'm sure then I would have been more forceful with the issue. At least I got my disatisfaction and point across. Hopefully this kind of thing will never happen there again, I'm not holding my breath that it wont though!

You did the best you could in talking after being pumped up with novocaine/lidocaine.  I would follow up with that call to the vet themselves either phone, person or mail.  10% is peanuts if it came down to one of your fids being fed something they couldn't have to eat because it would be detrimental to them.  I am glad though you were able to talk to the manager and express your feelings (what feeling you had in your mouth at the time... :))  It's better than not saying anything at all.

Maybe I only got a 10% discount because she thought I was drunk with my entire left side of my face being numb, gauze up in my gum and my voice being gruff from a cold  :D I am going to write the vet a letter. I'm guessing the vet has no idea about what went on. The more I think about it the more I can't believe she didn't seem to think losing items and mixing up birds and food was such a bad thing! I also told her about the bad piece of cauliflower being in the cage. She told me veggies stay in the cage for 24hrs. Well that wasn't the case as I picked them up at 4pm and it certainly hadn't been 24hrs since the cage was last cleaned. Besides, I don't think veggies or fruit should be left for 24hrs, bacteria sets in and things start to go bad. If Morghan doesn't eat her veggies within a couple of hours they go bye-bye. I wonder how many animals have gotten sick from food that went bad after it sat out for way to long?!!

Have you been happy with this place in the past? It seems like they are all MRDD there.

What does MRDD stand for?? I'm probably going to slap myself in the forehead once I know as I'm sure it's something I already know but it's just not clicking right now.

Yes, I've always been happy with the care they've given there. The vet is wonderful with all the animals and the techs were knowledgeable and very nice. I even interviewed there once to work as a tech and spent a day there. I didn't see anything while I was there to indicate something like what happened with boarding would happen. But I also didn't do anything with the boarding facility that day as it's a seperate opperation. I couldn't work the hours they were offering so I didn't take the job. I do know since then they have gotten a new manager, the woman I talked to today. Maybe her coming there changed things for the worse. She doesn't seem too concerned with proper care. This was the first time the fids boarded there, in the past just the dog Maxx had boarded and he I've never had a problem with him.

SM, Let you vet know about the "fresh ffod " staying in the cage for 24 hours - everyone should know, especially the vet, that all fresh fruit and veggies should be removed after 2 hours, sooner if it's hot out, because bacteria starts growing then. If all bird boarding were placed in the same room I'd be more than furious! I don't care if they all had a clean bill of health, many birds can be carriers of disease and never once will it show up in testing. Shame on your vet and his staff. The explanations given (& lack of) are piss-poor at best and to pass the buck that the staff are at fault is inexcusable. Let the vet know you are/have passed on your displeasure at the care our birds recieved and that you will make sure anyone/everyone you know who has birds will know never to trust the staff at that place. While the vet himself may be good, the staff have ruined your trust in him.

:pipen: I am so mad just reading this.

Yes I would write a letter and keep it short and too the point lay out everything that was done wrong, and make sure you ask for a follow up phone call from the vet so you know he read it and understands what happened.
