We here at buffaloparrot.com just wanted to add our opinion on this topic.  Though in the past we have purchased our Parrots through Breeders and Pet Shops, we strongly recommend not doing so!  The demand for Parrots is far less than the Parrots already in Bird Rescues that are in need of a good home!  Breeders keep breeding baby Parrots while the number of homeless Parrots grow!  After our experiences and research over the years we will only get our Parrots from Rescue Organizations in the future.  We hope many others in the future will also consider this option! AddEmoticons04239  I will also add that we want to also hear about breeders and how they go about things.  There is no bashing here and if Breeders and Rescues can learn more about each other, then it can only benefit the Parrot world.  Lets learn from each other and be respectful to each other! ;)

I fully support rescues I just want to add that not everybody feels they are able to take on a "second hand" parrot. Though I wish more people would, its just not something everyone is able to do. Yes the birds in rescues need homes, but in most cases they need special parronts.

Most birds in rescues end up there due to un-educated people buying them,These birds are no different then buying from a breeder,We have some of the most wonderful birds here at the shelter, all they need is a good home.
when you rescue a older bird you know what you are getting, when you buy a baby you have no idea how that bird will turn out after it reaches hormone changes.
To many people think that rescue birds all have major behavior problems and need alot of work, and that is not the case at all,They just need someone who has bird experience.

Your right Chance AddEmoticons04239 I worded my reply wrong. I didnt mean all rescue birds have issues just that there may be some people who dont feel personally ready to take on a rescue.

Did you see what Dad wrote....we are getting more parrots!!!!  ;D
Research, educate and spread the word you know.  As dad stated when we started we did not know about bird rescues to think back now it seems like a big "Duh"!  if cats and dogs and such are abused and unhomed why not parrots?  So with my research we now know.  People do need to be more educated obviously or the rescues/shelters wouldn't be so full.  Not all birds/dogs/cats will have a abusive past or be old.  That is where the rescue "runner" will make sure they are a match or should I say to the best of their ability and through interaction.  I just wish more people out there would do their research and not just go out and buy that pretty big bird that they have no idea about.

Somebody needs to win the lottery and set this thing up right. Hire some people to go around and certify all the rescues and put them on a network. It would be just like at Wal-Mart. You go into the local rescue and say you are interested in a caique. They say we got no caiques but the rescue in XXX has one and can ship it here overnight. Deal is done and everyone is happy. And, of course, you would also have to outlaw the big-time breeders. I really do not have a big bone to pick with folks with a couple of breeding pairs, but these factory operations have to go.
Think Barack needs a Secretary of Parrots?

Very good input from all of you!  As BPMar stated .."Education"!  My goal is to educate my self on every aspect of Parrots..Good Or Bad.  Though I am Pro-Rescue I also don't want to shut my self out from hearing about breeding, or anything else I may not agree with, etc, .. and then be left in the dark.  I can't help to educate and share my knowledge, if I am not going to learn the negatives along with the positives.  OK, I am rambling now and not making sense! ???
