I took Quincy back to the vet yesterday and the vet was pleased to see how well he is doing! The swelling has gone down, which is great news! I couldn't really tell because his toe still looks big. But the vet said that may not go down much more as it is probably scar tissue. He has just another day to take his meds and he will be done with that.

Since Quincy is tolerating the collar so well, he has to wear it for another 2 weeks! I am sure this is Quincy's reaction to hearing that = bugeye ! LOL! But it's for the best. The vet is concerned the toe may be itching as it heals and doesn't want him to pick at it. So I am all for it!

I talked to the vet about emergencies and he referred me to Tuff's Animal Hospital in Massachusetts BUT he told me to have the answering service to try to get ahold of him. If not, then to contact the Tuffs Animal Hospital he referred to. It is a Vet school and they have someone on call 24/7! It's 3 hours away, but in a real emergency, would be worth the drive and at least I have a phone resource!

Coqui got her check up with him for the first time and she did very well. She is all trimmed up, too! Nails, beak and feathers. She was glad to get home! LOL!  wink1

So all in all it was a good appointment.

Oh My!! I missed out on Quincy getting tangled up with Savannah too.  oh That is very good that he is tolerating the collar thingy, especially since you said he would never allow the harness wearing. Do you think there might be a chance he will accept the harness later on? Like maybe accepting the collar is a turning point in his life & he will be open to learning new things?  confused I know, I'm a dreamer, but this is a big step toward tolerance for him.  hugu

Last year Leyla Belle got scared (of what who knows as no other bird was close to her) while on her play perch & flew to Roscoe's cage instead of toward the kitchen area where she usually goes &  I was at. Before I could get in there Roscoe had bit her toe & cut it. I thought at first he had bit the nail off, but upon examining it he had made a small gash around the back side. I doctored it with neosporin & kept a watch on it. She never bothered it, just favored it for a few days & it healed up fine. I was glad I didn't have to take her to a vet since I am not fond of the exotic pet vet I have available. I will only go to her if it is an absolute emergency I can not avoid.  sad8

I was surprised the vet didn't collar due to the fact that all birds like nothing on their feet & MUST keep them 100% clean due to the fact that they eat with them. But then again our vet didn't collar our foster dog after surgery either and she hasn't touched her stitches except to do routine cleaning a couple times a day. But then again, that is the difference between a dog and a bird. LOL!
